What is happening?

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
Sankey St Gateway (Various Restrictions) Temporary Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that, in not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice, the Council intends to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be as follows:

  1. Temporarily suspend the Notices/Orders specified in Column 1 of Schedule 1 to this Notice to the extent as detailed in Column 2 of the said Schedule.
  2. Introduce a prohibition of driving on the lengths of road specified in Schedule 2 to this Notice to the extent as detailed in the said Schedule.
  3. Introduce a clearway on the lengths of road specified in Schedule 3 to this Notice to the extent as detailed in the said Schedule.
  4. Introduce a footway closure on the lengths of footway specified in Schedule 4 to this Notice to the extent as detailed in the said Schedule.

The Order will be effective from 13th April 2026 for 32 weeks, with the works carried out in phases to minimise disruption. The alternative routes will be: Bold St via Springfield St & Palmyra Sq Nth; Sankey St via Crosfield St, Midland Way, Legh St & vice versa & via Springfield St & Palmyra Sq Nth; Legh St via Sankey St, Crosfield St, Midland Way, Legh St & vice versa. The restrictions are required for Highway improvement works.

Local Government Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1976 – Appointment of Stand for Hackney Carriages (Notice dated 13th December 2007)
→ Stand located on Sankey St (North Side) – From a point 44.5m east of its jct. with Legh St for a distance of 5m in an easterly direction – 24 Hours – 1 space.

Local Government Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1976 – Appointment of Stand for Hackney Carriages
→ Stand located on Sankey St (North West Side) – From a point 10m south west of its jct. with Legh St in a south westerly direction for a distance of 14m – 24 Hours – 2 spaces.

The Borough of Warrington (Legh St/Sankey St/Bold St & Adjacent St’s) (Traffic Management) (Part 1) Order 2007
→ Is suspended in so far as it relates to the following:
Schedule 1 – One Way: Regent St from its jct. with Golborne St to its jct. with Legh St in an east to west direction;
Schedule 2 – Contra-flow Bus Lane: Legh St (east side) from a point 5m south of its jct. with Bath St to its jct. with Regent St.

The Borough of Warrington (Various Prohibitions & Revocation in Town Centre) Order 2024
→ Is suspended in so far as it relates to Article 10 & the access restriction on Sankey St from a point approx. 8m east of its jct. with Legh St & Bold St.

The Borough of Warrington (Traffic Management) (Civil Enforcement) Consolidation Order 2025
→ Is suspended in so far as it relates to the following:
Schedule 45 – Waiting limited to 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday 8am to 6:30pm, no return within 1 hour: Sankey St (South Side) – Between a point 39.5m east of its jct. with Springfield St & a point 62.8m east of its jct. with Springfield St;
Schedule 69 – Designated Loading Areas: Hilden Sq (Both Sides) – From its jct. with Sankey St to its jct. with Regent St;
Schedule 70 – Loading & Unloading Only Bays, any time: All that part of the south kerb line of Regent St which is bounded on the south side by so much of that highway as extends from a point 22.8m east of its jct. with Legh St for a distance of 13.2m in a northerly direction & which has a width throughout of 2.7m;
All that part of the west kerb line of Legh St which is bounded on the west side by so much of that highway as extends from a point 27.3m north of its jct. with Sankey St for a distance of 21.2m in a northerly direction & which has a width throughout of 2.5m;
Schedule 71 – Loading & Unloading Only Bays, between 8am to 6:30pm on Monday to Saturday: All that part of the west kerb line of Bold St which is bounded on the west by so much of the highway as extends from a point 28m south of its jct. with Sankey St for a distance of 15m in a southerly direction & which has a width throughout of 2.7m;
Schedule 109 – 24 Hour Taxi Stand Clearway: Sankey St – Stand on north side between Garven Pl & Legh St; Sankey St – Stand on north side between Bold St & Legh St.

Bold St – From its jct. with Sankey St to its jct. with Palmyra Sq Nth;
Sankey St – From its jct. with Springfield St to its jct. with Bold St;

Garven Pl – From its jct. with Sankey St for a 15m in a northerly direction;

Bold St – From its jct. with Sankey St to its jct. with Palmyra Sq Nth;

Schedule 4 – Footway Closure

Notice is hereby given that the Council made Orders under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Timperley Ave (Prohibition of Driving) Temporary Order 2026

The effect of which is to introduce a prohibition of driving on Timperley Ave from its jct. with Garnett Ave to its jct. with Whitley Ave. The Order will be effective from 9th April 2026 for 1 day, between 9:30am & 3:30pm. The alternative route will be via Garnett Ave, Barrymore Ave, Whitley Ave & vice versa. The closure is required to allow openreach to carry out pole replacement work.

Various Rd’s in Lymm North & Thelwall (Prohibition of Driving & Clearway) Temporary Order 2026

The effect of which is to introduce the following: Prohibition of Driving & Clearway: Entire lengths of road:
Brook Rd; Lymmhay Ln; Adey Rd; Cuerden Dr; Ferry Ln; Turnberry Cl; Warburton Cl;

Part lengths of road:
Woodlands Dr from the jct. with Gatley Cl to the jct. with All Saints Dr;
Howard Ave from the jct. with Oughtrington View to the end at access Oughtrington Primary School;
Oughtrington Cres from the Bridgewater Canal Bridge to the jct. with Stage Ln/Sandy Ln;
Rushgreen Rd from the jct. with Whitefield Grv to the jct. with Howard Ave;
Weaste Ln from the jct. with Halfacre Ln east for 250m;
Whitbarrow Rd from the jct. with Star Ln to the jct. with The Poplars;
Wilson Cl from the jct. with Woodland Dr to the Northeastern end.

The Order will be effective from 4th May 2026 for 9 weeks, between 8:30am & 5:30pm. The alternative routes will be as follows:
Oughtrington Cres via Oughtrington Ln, Higher Ln, Burford Ln, Stage Ln & vice versa;
Weaste Ln via Cliff Ln, Knutsford Rd, Stockport Rd, Camsley Ln, Massey Brook Ln & vice versa.

The restrictions are required for road or footway surfacing works.

Withers Ave (Prohibition of Driving) Temporary Order 2026

The effect of which is to introduce a prohibition of driving on Withers Ave from its jct. with Hallfields Rd to its jct. with Smith Dr. The Order will be effective from 12th April 2026 for 1 day. The alternative route will be via Hallfields Rd, Orford Grn, Hilden Pl, Orford Rd & vice versa. The closure is required to allow United Utilities to install a new water connection.

Grappenhall & Thelwall Footpath 6 (Footpath Closure) Temporary Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Council made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on 29th January 2026. The effect of which is to introduce a footpath closure on Grappenhall & Thelwall Footpath 6 from its jct. with Broad Ln for 350m in a south westerly direction. The Order was effective from 16th February 2026 for 5 weeks, however due to unforeseen circumstances the closure is now required to remain in place until 10th May 2026. The access, alternative route & reason for the works remains the same as previously advertised.

The temporary restrictions will be in place as & when the signs are in place on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works.

The Borough of Warrington (Off-Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement) Consolidation (Amendment No. 3) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Council made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 32, 35 & Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 & of all other enabling powers on 25th March 2026. The effect of the Order is The Borough of Warrington (Off-Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement) Consolidation Order 2024, is hereby further varied or amended as detailed in the Schedule to this notice. The Order will be effective from 1st April 2026. Deposited documents may be viewed on-line at https://www.warrington.gov.uk/permanent-traffic-regulation-orders or Contact Warrington, 1 Time Sq, Warrington, WA1 2NT between 9am & 5pm, Monday to Friday. Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks from 25th March 2026, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
