(PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF WAITING AND PERMITTED PARKING) (Variation No.1) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that on 23 March 2026 Oxfordshire County Council made the above order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The order, which comes into force on 1 April introduces new parking & loading restrictions within Abingdon as follows:
1. Central Abingdon:
A. Faringdon Road existing ‘No Loading – Mon to Sun, 7.30am-9.30am & 4.30pm-6.30pm’ restriction:
a. Drayton Road (Both sides) – between its roundabout junctions with Marcham Road/Ock Street & Caldecott Road/Suffolk Way.
B. ‘No Loading – Mon to Sat, 7am-10am & 4pm-7pm’ restriction:
2. A415 Bridge Street (Both sides) – between No.27 Bridge Street & ‘Maud Hale Cottages’, covering the entire length Abingdon Bridge.
C. ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ (Double Yellow Lines) parking restrictions:
3. Lombard Street (North side) – in place of the previous 14 metre restriction section opposite access to ‘The Courtyard’.
4. St Edmunds Lane:
a. North side – from its junction with West St Helen Street, westwards for approx. 12 metres, replacing the previous ‘No Waiting Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm’ (single yellow lines) restriction;
b. South side – from its junction with West St Helen Street, westwards to the existing DYLs, replacing the previous ‘No Waiting Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm’ (single yellow lines) restriction.
5. St Helens Court (South side) – from its junction with West St Helen Street to No.4, replacing the previous ‘No Waiting Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm’ (single yellow lines) restriction.
6. West St Helen Street
- West side – i) either side of its junction with St Edmunds Lane, ii) south of its junction with St Helens Court for approx. 7 metres, replacing previous sections of ‘No Waiting Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm’ (single yellow lines) restriction, and iii) between the Bus Stop & Loading Bay opposite the junction with Lombard Street,
- East side – replacing the previous ‘Pay & Display’ (Mon-Sat 8am-6pm) bay adjacent to No.12 in its entirety,
- St Helens Wharf (North/West side) – approx. 6 metres at the eastern corner of Mill Lane, adjacent to No.4
D. ‘Resident Permit Holders Only’ parking bays (with ‘AB’ prefix) in:
8. St Edmunds Lane (North side) – one new 13 metre bay adjacent to No.4, and one 4.5 metre bay adjacent to No.1,
• Residents of the following additional properties will be able to apply for annual Residents and Visitors’ Parking Permits, with a local identifier of ‘AB’:
– Nos.1-16 St. Edmunds Lane,
– Nos.1-3 & Nos.1-4 Twitty Almshouses,
– Nos.1-7 Long Alley Almshouses, and
– Nos.1-8 Brick Alley Almshouses.
• Residents permits will be limited to one per resident with a maximum of two permits per property, with a cost of £132 per permit,
• Visitors permits usually have a maximum of 50 days’ worth of permits issued per year. For residents aged 70 or over will be free of charge, for other residents the first block of 25 visitors permits will be free, second block will be £31.50.
E. ‘30-minute Limited Waiting Parking Bay, Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, No Return Within 1 Hour’ parking bay:
9. West St Helen Street (West side) – new 16.5 metre bay adjacent to No.15-19, replacing the previous ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ (double yellow line) restriction
F. ‘2-hour Limited Waiting Parking Bays, Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, No Return Within 1 Hour’ parking bays:
10. Manor Court:
a. West side – new 12 metre bay, northwards from a point opposite the northern kerb line of Mill Paddock, replacing the previous ‘No Waiting Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm’ (single yellow lines) restriction
b. North side – new 22 metre bay opposite Nos.1 & 2, replacing the previous ‘No Waiting Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm’ (single yellow lines) restriction
G. ‘Pay & Display’ Parking Place, Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm, Max Stay 2 Hours, No Return Within 1 Hour’ parking bay (Resident Permit Holders exempt):
11. St Helens Wharf (North/West side) – new 32 metre bay adjacent to Nos.2-4/Public House.
H. Additionally ‘Pay & Display’ & ‘Resident Permit Holders Only’ parking bays within the Town Centre area will remain, BUT their associated signage will be updated to show/confirm that permit holders with the ‘AB’ prefix remain eligible to park, with no change to provisions.
2. Abingdon Central East:
I. ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ (Double Yellow Lines):
- Audlett Drive (Both sides) from the DYLs south of Radley Road, southwards to beyond its junction with Thames View,
- Jackmans Close (Both sides) from its junction with Audlett Drive, westwards for approx.10 metres,
- Magnette Close (Both sides) from its junction with Abbey Close, eastwards to cover its entire length of public Highway,
- Penlon Place:
a. Both sides – from the DYLs south of Radley Road, southwards to the turning island adjacent to Nos.63-73 & Nos.78-88 (excluding any sections of private parking allocation),
b. Island adjacent to Nos.63-73 & Nos.78-88 – around the entire kerb line of the central island, - Quakers Court (Both sides) – from its junction with Vineyard, southwards for approx.30 metres on the west side, and approx. 55 metres on the east side.
J. ‘No Waiting Monday to Saturday 8am-6pm’ (Single Yellow Lines):
- Radley Road (South side) between No.2 Radley Road & No.5 Farriers Mews, a distance of approx.110 metres.
The Oxfordshire County Council (Various Roads – the Vale of White Horse District) (Map Based) (Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting and Permitted Parking) Order 2026 is amended as necessary updating Map Tiles: ‘FY60’, ‘FY62’, ‘FY63’, ‘FZ60’, ‘FZ62’, ‘FW62’, ‘FW63’, ‘FX62’ & ‘FX63’ the process. If you wish to question the validity of this Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of this Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to this Order, you may within six weeks from 23 March 2026 apply to the High Court for this purpose. ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1)
Notice of Temporary Traffic Order
Stanford in the Vale, Bow Road
Prohibition of Through Traffic
Date of Order: 30/03/2026
Coming into force: 13/04/2026
This Order is being introduced because of culvert investigation and repair/replacement works. Initial investigation is anticipated to take 3 weeks whereafter the road will be reopened until forward planning a date for physical repairs can be announced (by a subsequent public notice). The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit vehicles proceeding in the section of Bow Road from Stanford House to Chapel Road. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The diversion for this closure is via the B4508, Cottage Road, Faringdon Road and vice versa. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

Abingdon, A415 Bridge Street
Prohibition of Through Traffic
Date of Order: 09/03/2026
Coming into force: 16/03/2026
This Order is being introduced because of works to Abingdon Bridge, investigate structure for strengthening, involving bore holes and utility identification work which are going to take until 21 March to complete during night-time working 22:00 - 05:30hrs. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding over the river bridge. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Access will be maintained for pedestrians only. The alternative route for traffic is via A415, B4015, A4074, A423, Kennington Road, Whites Lane, Radley Road, A4183, A415 and vice versa. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

Bayworth, Unnamed Road
Prohibition of Through Traffic
Date of Order: 13/04/2026
Coming into force: 20/04/2026
This Order is being introduced because of gas main replacement works which are anticipated to be completed 14 August 2026. This is a 24 hour road closure. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in the length of the unnamed road between the junctions of Green Lane and Oxford Road. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The alternative route for traffic is via Oxford Road, Foxcombe Road, Brumcombe Lane, Green Lane and vice versa. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order
Chiselhampton, B4015 – 30 mph Speed Limit
Date of Order: 23/03/2026
Coming into force: 01/04/2026
This Order is being introduced because of excavations necessary for upgrading the electricity network, which are anticipated to take 12 days to complete. The effect of the Order is to temporarily reduce traffic speed from 50mph to 30 mph on the B4015 from Marylands Farm – from approx 280 metres west of the track from the B4015 to Drayton St Leonard, to a point 40m west of the entrance to Marylands Farm, a total of approximately 630m. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. The relevant part of the Oxfordshire County Council (Stadhampton – Chalgrove Areas) (Speed Limits) Order will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the works in respect of the existing 50mph speed limit. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

B480 Chiselhampton – 30 mph Speed Limit
Date of Order: 06/04/2026
Coming into force: 13/04/2026
This Order is being introduced because of excavations to facilitate upgrading the electricity network which are anticipated to take 13 days to complete. The effect of the Order is to temporarily reduce the speed of traffic from 50mph to 30mph, on the B480 from the junction with Cuddesdon Road until the road curves towards Chiselhampton – from 140 metres north of junction with Cuddesdon Road to a point 165m north from the entrance to Richmond Hill farm, a total of approximately 500m. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. The relevant part of the Oxfordshire County Council (Stadhampton – Chalgrove Areas) (Speed Limits) Order will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the works in respect of the existing 50mph speed limit. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.
