A50 Trunk Road - Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic To Bridge Railway Repairs

THE A50 TRUNK ROAD (BLYTHE BRIDGE TO UTTOXETER, STAFFORDSHIRE)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company no. 9346363) has revoked an existing order and made a new order on the A50 Trunk Road between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter in the County of Staffordshire, to allow bridge railway repairs to be carried out.
The effect of the Order, will be to, at different times –
(1) impose a 50 miles per hour speed limit on the eastbound carriageway of the A50 from a point 260 metres northwest of the centrepoint of its roundabout junction with of Lysander Road, Uttoxeter Road, and the slip roads leading to and from the A50, at Blythe Bridge (Catchems Corner Roundabout), to a point 260 metres northwest of the centrepoint of its roundabout junction with Grindley Lane, the B5029 and the slip roads leading to and from the A50, at Blythe Bridge (Grindley Roundabout);
(2) impose a 40 miles per hour speed limit on the eastbound carriageway of the A50 from a point 260 metres northwest of the centrepoint of Grindley Roundabout, to a point 100 metres northwest of the roundabout junction with of the A521, at Blythe Bridge (Tean Roundabout);
(3) impose a 40 miles per hour speed limit on the eastbound entry slip road leading from Grindley roundabout;
(4) close –
(a) the eastbound carriageway of the A50 from its junction with the exit slip road leading to Catchems Corner Roundabout, to its junction with the entry slip road leading from its dumbbell roundabout junction with the A522, at Uttoxeter; and
(b) the westbound carriageway of the A50 from its junction with the exit slip road leading to its dumbbell roundabout junction with the A522, at Uttoxeter, to its junction with the entry slip road leading from Catchems Corner Roundabout;
(5) close any slip road leading to or from the lengths of trunk road described in (4) (a) and (b) above. The works are expected to start on Monday 30 March 2026 and continue for three months. The closures will be in operation overnight between 20:00 hours and 05:00 hours. The speed restriction will be in operation 24 hours per day, for the duration of works.
The Order will come into force on 30 March 2026.
Any vehicle being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions and closures. Special forces vehicles will be exempt from the speed restrictions and vehicles being used in connection with the works will be exempt from the closures. Access to premises will be maintained.
Diversion routes via the A522, High Street, the A52 and the A520 and vice versa will be signed.
