What is happening?

Temporary Closure of East Knighton Lane,

East Knighton

DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along East Knighton Lane, East Knighton from junction with A352 and Claypits Lane (in both directions), a distance of approximately 840 metres. The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 30th March 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 26th June 2026

This Order will enable Wessex Water, safe access to install a rolling road closure to enable them to install a new water main and make the necessary new connections.

An alternative vehicular route will be signed using A352, Water Lane, School Lane and vice versa.

Public Path Special Diversion Order 2024

On 6 March 2026 Dorset Council confirmed the above-named order made under section 119B (4) of the Highways Act 1980 as unopposed and the Council has certified that work has been carried out to bring the site of the new highway mentioned in article 3 of the order into a fit condition for use by the public.

The effect of the order as confirmed is to divert part of Footpath 62, Weymouth as shown on the order map as follows:

From the existing path:

The full width of Footpath 62, from SY 66789 81689 north east to its junction with Footpath 131 at SY 6679 8170 then generally east and north east to its junction with the footway adjacent Radipole Lane at SY 6689 8176 (No recorded width)

To the new path:

From SY 66789 81689 generally east north east to SY 6679 8168, then east north east to SY 6680 8168, north east to SY 66828 81694, north north east to SY 66829 81696 and then north east to SY 6689 8171, generally north to SY 6689 8172 and generally east north east to its junction with the footway adjacent Radipole Lane at SY 6690 8172 then generally north along the footway and across the entrance to Radipole Primary School to the unaffected part of Footpath 62 at SY 6689 8176.

Width: 2 metres except at SY 6679 8168 and SY 6680 8168: 1.2 metres

The order comes into force on 13 March 2026 but if any person aggrieved by the order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980, as amended, or on the ground that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or of any regulation made under the Act has not been complied with in relation to the order, he or she may, under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within six weeks from 19 March 2026, make an application to the High Court.

Public Path Special Extinguishment Order 2024

On 6 March 2026 Dorset Council confirmed the above-named order made under section 118B (4) of the Highways Act 1980 as unopposed. The effect of the order as confirmed is to extinguish part of Footpath 131, Weymouth as shown on the order map as follows:

The full width of Footpath 131 from its junction with Footpath 133 at SY66798175 generally south east then south south west to its junction with Footpath 62 at SY66798170 (No recorded width).

Temporary 30mph Speed Limit, B3157, Abbotsbury

DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. The effect of the Order will be to impose a temporary 30 mph speed limit upon B3157, ABBOTSBURY, between its junction with Cleverlands and a point approximately 2435 metres north west, at such times and to such extent as indicated by the traffic signs. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 23 March 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months.

This Order is required for health and safety reasons.

Temporary Closure of Public Footpath S3/2 & S3/5, Portland

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 8 April 2026 until 6 May 2026.

The effect of the Order will be;

[1] To impose temporary closure on footpath S3/2 on 8 April 2026 until 22 April 2026 between grid reference SY 68492 73208 to grid reference SY 68412 73270, a distance of approximately 100 metres.

[2] To impose temporary closure on footpath S3/5 on 22 April 2026 until 6 May 2026 between grid reference SY 68409 73266 to grid reference SY 68443 73198, a distance of approximately 85 metres.

This Order is required to allow Stonbury to install a water supply and foul drain.

An alternative route will be signposted.

Temporary Closure of East Burton Road, Wool

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 7th April 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 24th April 2026.

This Order will provide Wessex Internet with safe access to install a fibre cable.

All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along East Burton Road, Wool & Winfrith in two phases as per the below:

[1] The first phase will close East Burton Road Wool from junction with Burton Road to the entrance leading to Whitemead Caravan Park (in both directions), a distance of approximately 1030 metres between 7th April 2026 until 17th April 2026.

[2] The second phase will close East Burton Road, Winfrith from junction with Burton Road to junction with Gatemore Road (in both directions), a distance of approximately 2340 metres between 20th April 2026 until 24th April 2026.

An alternative vehicular route will be signed using Gatemore Road, A352 and vice versa.

Temporary Closure of Sodom Lane, Marnhull

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Sodom Lane, Marnhull between Ashley Road and Talbothays Crescent (in both directions), a distance of approximately 50 metres. The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 25th May 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 21st June 2026.

This Order will provide Wessex Water with safe access to make a water main connection for a diversion for a new development

An alternative vehicular route will be signed using Sodom Lane, Pilwell, Church Hill, B3092 and vice versa.

Dorset Council Traffic Management Scheme,

Chickerell Road, Chickerell

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of Dorset proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended. The general effect of the order will be to:

• Introduce no waiting at any time restrictions along parts of Chickerell Road, Chickerell

• Introduce no loading at any time restrictions along parts of Chickerell Road, Chickerell

• Formalise the school keep clear markings along part of Chickerell Road, Chickerell (outside of the entrance to Budmouth Academy)

As part of the traffic management scheme, Dorset Council in exercise of powers under Section 23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 intends to:

• Install a new signalised toucan crossing along Chickerell Road, Chickerell (outside of the entrance to Budmouth Academy).
