THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 33-32

SOUTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAY AND SLIP ROAD)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND

PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M6 Motorway, in the City of Preston, in the County of

Lancashire, to enable resurfacing, replacement of road markings and stud works, and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.

The Order will on the following sections of the M6 Motorway:

a)   impose a 50 mph speed limit on the southbound carriageway, from a point  149 metres south of the Delph Lane Bridge, to a point 100 metres north of the Dicketts

Farm Footbridge;

b)   ban all traffic from the southbound carriageway, from the southbound exit slip road at J33, to the southbound entry slip road at J32;

c)   ban all traffic from the southbound entry slip road at J33;

d)   allow the hard shoulder adjacent to the southbound carriageway to be used as a running lane, from a point 97 metres north of the Woodacre Great Wood Bridge, to a point 200 metres north of the Dicketts Farm Footbridge. A 50 mph speed limit will be in force on the hard shoulder when used as a running lane, as indicated by traffic signs.

The restrictions and prohibitions are expected to take place during an overnight period between 19:00 and 06:00, starting Monday 13 April 2026 and ending on Saturday 9 May 2026.

However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed.

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services or works vehicles and will apply to traffic officer vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, be indicated by traffic signs. The Order comes into force on 12 April 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months. For further information, contact
