What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CHACOMBE, MELROSE AND FINCHALE, WASHINGTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026


Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from those sections of footways listed in the Schedule. The Order is required to facilitate gas main repair works. The order will come into force on 15th April 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, the works are expected to be completed within 86 days. All pedestrians will be prohibited from those sections of roads listed in the Schedule below. An alternative route will be provided.
Schedule: Chacombe – footpath from No. 10 Chacombe to No.33 & 34 Chacombe; Chacombe – footpath linking No. 33 & 34 Chacombe to No. 35 Chacombe; Chacombe – from the extended party property of No. 59 & No. 60 Chacombe, to its western extent; Chacombe – footpath linking No. 44 to No. 48 Chacombe; Finchale – footpath linking No. 33 & 34 Chacombe to No. 26 Finchale; Melrose - footpath linking No. 26 Finchale to No. 26 Melrose; and Melrose - footpath linking No 11 Finchale, for a distance of 69 metres in a westerly then a southerly direction.
