A27 Trunk Road (Falmer Interchange to Ashcombe Roundabout) - Temporary Traffic Restrictions
What is happening?
TRUNK ROAD
(FALMER INTERCHANGE TO ASHCOMBE ROUNDABOUT)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex and the Unitary Authority of the City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-
1. authorise the overnight closure of the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between Falmer Interchange (B2123) and Ashcombe Roundabout (A277), and all slip roads leading to and from, and all side roads at junction with, this length of carriageway;
2. authorise the 24-hour closure of the lay-bys adjacent to the carriageway described in 1. above;
3. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed restriction on the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between its divergence from the exit slip road at Falmer Interchange (B2123) and a point approximately 1030 metres east of the centreline of South Downs Way overbridge; These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors working on behalf of Landbuild undertake survey, civils, and carriageway works at Esso Rontec Service Station to create a drive-thru for Greggs, and would also include closure of the inside lane.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 1 month starting on or after Monday 13th April 2026. Overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period) but for the purpose of installing and removing inside lane closure and speed limit signage only.
The Order would come into force on 11th April 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Through traffic affected by the carriageway closure would be strategically diverted using the A27, A270, A23, A259, and A26. Access to properties within the closure would be permitted under works control. The environmental 7.5 tonne weight limit at Peacehaven would be relaxed to enable the diversion.
The temporary closures, diversions, and speed restrictions would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
