SECTION 14(1)
MORPETH TOWN PUBLIC FOOTPATH
NUMBER 3
(TEMPORARY FOOTPATH CLOSURE) CONTINUATION ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVENthat Northumberland County Council (“the Council”) has made an Order to which continues to prohibit the use of the Morpeth Town Public Footpath Number 3, in the County of
Northumberland.
The Council made an order named the “Northumberland County Council (Morpeth Town Public Footpath Number 3) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2024” on the 16th October 2024 (“the 2024 Order”) due to works being carried out, the Council are satisfied that the footpath should continue to be restricted as works are continuing being carried out around the footpath and there remains a likelihood of danger to the public as the footpath runs through a construction site and is not safe for pedestrians to use.
The Secretary of State approved an extension of the 2024 Order on the 21st March 2025 and has approved a further continuation on the 26th February 2026 and has approved a continuation of the prohibition until the 18th October 2027 or until completion of the works, whichever is the earlier. The route is described as follows:
Morpeth Town Public Footpath Number 3
From the junction with public footpath number 2, 190 metres north west of St Georges Park in a general easterly direction for a distance of 320 metres to a point 50 metres north of St Georges Park.
There is an alternative route available from the junction with public footpath number 2, 190 metres north west of St Georges Park in a general south-easterly direction for a distance of 140 metres then continuing in an easterly direction for a distance of 250 metres to a point 50 metres north of St Georges Park.
The Order shall continue the prohibition from the 19th April 2026 until the 18th October 2027. The continuation has been requested by Stonebridge Homes due to the likelihood of danger to the public which is not attributable to works but due to the footpath being within the compounds of an ongoing construction site, which means it would be unsafe for pedestrians to use the footpath.
Enquiries should be made to Kelly O’Sullivan, Area Countryside Officer, by email to Kelly.O’Sullivan@ northumberland.gov.uk
DATED this 19th day of March 2026.
