North Somerset Council, (Speed Limit Restrictions, North Somerset) Consolidation Order 2024 (Variation No.8) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that on the 5 March 2026 North Somerset Council made the following order in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended. The general effect of the order was to amend the North Somerset Council (Speed Limit Restrictions, North Somerset Consolidation Order 2024) to alter the speed restrictions on A370 West Town Road, A370 Farleigh Road and Dark Lane at their junction with Station Road, Backwell commonly known as the Backwell Crossroads. The extent of the alterations are described in the Schedule to this Notice. The order will come into operation on the 25 May 2026, and copies of the order may be inspected at:

Any person who desires to question the validity of, or of any provision contained in the order on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, or on the grounds that any of the relevant requirements of that Act has not been complied with in relation to the order, may within six weeks after the date on which the order was made, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
Schedule – Speed Limit Restrictions – 20mph:
A370 West Town Road southwest bound – creating a new 20mph speed limit from the centre of Backwell Crossroads to a point 288m along the road approximately opposite the path between property numbers 33 and 35 West Town Road.
A370 Farleigh Road northeast bound – creating a new 20mph speed limit from the centre of Backwell Crossroads to a point 288m along the road approximately opposite the path between property numbers 30 and 32 Farleigh Road.
Dark Lane southeast bound – creating a new 20mph speed limit from the centre of Backwell Crossroads to a point 49m along the road to opposite the boundary between property numbers 10 and 12 Dark Lane.
Speed Limit Restrictions – 30mph:
A370 West Town Road southwest bound – revocation of 30mph speed limit from the centre of Backwell Crossroads to a point 288m along the road approximately opposite the path between property numbers 33 and 35 West Town Road.
A370 Farleigh Road northeast bound – revocation of 30mph speed limit from the centre of Backwell Crossroads to a point 288m along the road approximately opposite the path between property numbers 30 and 32 Farleigh Road.
Dark Lane southeast bound – revocation of 30mph speed limit from the centre of Backwell Crossroads to a point 49m along the road to opposite the boundary between property numbers 10 and 12 Dark Lane.

Notice of Temporary Traffic Regulation Order
Notice is hereby given that North Somerset Council in pursuance of the provisions of section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, intend to make an order the effect of which is:
Bridleways LA8.66.10 and LA8.67.10, Easton-in-Gordano, North Somerset
Temporary Prohibition of Use by Pedestrians, Cyclists and Equestrians Order 2026
Date Coming into Force: 5 May 2026

Will be to close, temporarily, to pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians the lengths of bridleways specified in the Schedule to this Notice. Exemptions are included for emergency services, works access and as works permit for premises which may only be accessed via the closed section of bridleway.
This order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon work by North Somerset Council for MetroWest project works. This order will become operative on the 5 May 2026 for a maximum period of six months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period and only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 32 days in duration. Appropriate bridleway traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles Order 2026
Date coming into Force: 14 April 2026

Will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles the lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice. Exemptions are included for emergency services, works access, works vehicles and as works permit for premises which may only be accessed via the closed section of road.
This order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon work by Openreach Limited to lay duct to facilitate spine cabling works. This order will become operative on the 14 April 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 3 days in duration. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles Order 2026
Date coming Into Force: 6 April 2026

Will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles the lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice. Exemptions are included for emergency services, works access, works vehicles and as works permit for premises which may only be accessed via the closed section of road.
This order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon work by Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd to carry out highway construction associated with new rail station. This order will become operative on the 6 April 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 10 hours in duration from 8pm to 6am. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles Order 2026
Date coming Into Force: 7 April 2026 to 26 November 2026

Will be to prohibit left turn from Quays Avenue onto Harbour Road, temporarily, to vehicles the lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice. Exemptions are included for emergency services, works access, works vehicles and as works permit for premises which may only be accessed via the closed section of road.
This order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon work by Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd to carry out associated highway construction for new rail station for Metro West project. This order will become operative on the 7 April 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the prohibition of left turn may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 33 weeks in duration. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

Will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles the lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice. Exemptions are included for emergency services, works access, works vehicles and as works permit for premises which may only be accessed via the closed section of road.
This order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon work by Openreach Limited to access joint boxes for cabling work. This order will become operative on the 11 May 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 5 hours in duration between 9.30am and 2.30pm. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

Old Church Road, Clevedon, North Somerset
Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles and Cyclists
Date coming into force: 16 March 2026

This order was required because of carriageway surfacing works. The order will become operative on 16 March 2026, anticipated to be 5 days. The maximum period for the closures is eighteen months, however, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works.
Schedule – Old Church Road, Clevedon from the junction with Beach Avenue to the junction with Hillside Road.

This order was required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon work by National Grid to reinstate road to original width and layout, amending lining and road markings, amend speed restrictions, and associated signage, removal of temporary traffic lights, and reinstate anti-skid road surface. This order will become operative on the 23 March 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 5 days in duration. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

This order will become operative on the 17 March 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 8 days in duration between 8pm and 6am. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

This order will become operative on the 27 March 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 5 days in duration.
