What is happening?

Highways

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

CANTERBURY AREA

Broomfield Road, Herne, CT6 7DD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2026

To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Broomfield Road, Herne from 7th April 2026, with estimated completion by 9th April 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 99, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Broomfield Road, Gorse Lane, Hunters Forstal Road, Margate Road, Broomfield Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Chestfield Road, Chestfield, CT5 3LR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2026

To allow water pipe repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Chestfield Road, Chestfield from 7th April 2026, with estimated completion by 8th April 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside number 165, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Chestfield Road, A2990 Thanet Way, A290 Clapham Hill, Pean Hill, Honey Hill, Blean Common, Blean Hill, Tile Kiln Hill, Whitstable Road, St Thomas Hill, Whitstable Road, Forty Acres Road, Beaconsfield Road, St Stephen’s Hill, Canterbury Hill, Wood Hill, Hackington Road, Radfall Road, Radfall Hill, Chestfield Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Denstead Lane, Chartham Hatch.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow pole and cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Denstead Lane, Chartham Hatch from 25th March 2026 with estimated completion by 26th March 2026, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed south of the junction with A2 heading 100m in a southerly direction, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic northbound for vehicles under 12’0” is via Denstead Lane, Gravel Hill, Howfield Lane, A28 Ashford Road, Thanington Road, A2 Dover Road and Denstead Lane.

The alternative route for any through traffic northbound for vehicles over 12’0” is via Denstead Lane, Gravel Hill, Town Lane, Hatch Lane, A28 Ashford Road, Thanington Road, A2 Dover Road and Denstead Lane.

The alternative route for any through traffic southbound for vehicles under 12’0” is via Denstead Lane, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dunkirk Slip westbound Off, Canterbury Road, A2 Dover Road, Harbledown Slip Eastbound Off, A2050 Harbledown Bypass Rheims Way, A28 Wincheap, Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Howfield Lane, Gravel Hill and Denstead Lane.

The alternative route for any through traffic southbound for vehicles over 12’0” is via Denstead Lane, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dunkirk Slip Westbound Off, Canterbury Road, A2 Dover Road, Harbledown Slip Eastbound Off, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, A2050 Rheims Way, A28 Wincheap, Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Hatch Lane, Town Lane, Gravel Hill and Denstead Lane.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Grove Road, Wickhambreaux.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2026

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Grove Road, Wickhambreaux from 8th April 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with Stodmarsh Road heading approximately 770m southwards, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Grove Road, The Street, Preston Lane, Preston Road, Preston Hill, A257 High Street, Canterbury Road, Wingham Road, High Street, Nargate Street, Wickham Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Merton Lane, Lower Hardres, CT4 7BD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow tree cutting works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Merton Lane, Lower Hardres from 23rd March 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between Farnham House and the junction with Iffin Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Iffin Lane, Chartham Downs Road, B2068 Street End, Faussett Hill, Nackington Road, Merton Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Northwood Road, Whitstable, CT5 2LB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow frame and cover works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Northwood Road, Whitstable from 23rd March 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junction with St Annes Road and number 7 Fitzroy Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Northwood Road, Castle Road, Queens Road, Bennells Avenue and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



The Street, Adisham, CT3 3JN (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2026

To allow water pipe repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on The Street, Adisham from 9th April 2026, with estimated completion by 13th April 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via The Street, Woodlands Road, Woodlands Lane, Poor Start Lane, Bramling Road, Adisham Downs Road, Pond Hill, The Street and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Various Roads, Canterbury.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & PEDESTRIANS) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow events to take place for the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic & pedestrian access on part of various roads in Canterbury. Restrictions are planned from 25th March 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00.

Closure Schedule

The following roads will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles at their junctions with High Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site:

• Guildhall Street

• Mercery Lane

• Butchery Lane

• Longmarket

The following roads will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles at the extents listed below, to where indicated by signs and barriers on site:

• Iron Lane will be closed at the junction with Burgate.

• Burgate will be closed at the junction with Canterbury Lane.

• Orange Street will be closed at the junction with Best Lane.

• St Alphege Lane will be closed at the junction with King Street.

• Palace Street will be closed at the junction with Borough.

The alternative routes for through traffic and pedestrians will be indicated by signs and barriers on site.
