What is happening?

SANDWELL METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Monksfield Avenue, Great Barr)
(Temporary Road Closures) Order 2026
intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Monksfield Avenue, which will be closed from the junction of Newton Road for 30 metres. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. The following traffic diversion routes will be signed:

1.  Newton Road (westerly direction), All Saints Way, Heath Lane, Walsall Road, Lyndhurst Road, Hollyhedge Road, Newton Road (easterly direction), Birmingham Road, Wilderness Lane & Longleat.

2.  Newton Road (easterly direction), Birmingham Road, Wilderness Lane & Longleat.

3.  Longleat, Wilderness Lane, Peakhouse Road, Birmingham Road (north-westerly direction) to the roundabout at the junction of Broadway/ Broadway North, Birmingham Road (south-easterly direction) and Newton Road.

The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 29/03/2026, effective from 21/03/2026 (8am - 6pm). The road closures will be in operation during weekends only (21st - 22nd & 28th - 29th March 2026). Purpose – to facilitate access for carriageway resurfacing works by Bridge Construction Ltd on behalf of Sandwell MBC.

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Grice Street, West Bromwich)
(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026
intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Grice Street, which will be closed between the access gates to Tyre Place & Sunrise Enterprise. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. A traffic diversion route will not be signed, but signage will be situated in Grice Street advising egress only via Bullock Street & Ault Street to Kelvin Way. Additional signage on Ault Street advising no access to Spon Lane South from Grice Street. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 08/05/2026 effective from 24/03/2026 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access to construct a new cycle lane by Parade Civil Engineering Ltd on behalf of Sandwell MBC.

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Walford Street, Oldbury)
(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026
intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Walford Street, which will be closed from the junction of New Birmingham Road for 20 metres. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via New Birmingham Road (southerly direction), Tividale Road & Barnett Street.

A second traffic diversion route will be signed via New Birmingham Road (southerly direction), Hill Road, Tividale Road & Barnett Street. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 03/04/2026 effective from 23/03/2026 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access for junction improvement works by Fitzgeralds Contractors Ltd on behalf of Sandwell MBC.
