What is happening?

(CONTROLLED PARKING ZONE) CONSOLIDATION ORDER 2008
(WESTERN CORRIDOR) VARIATION ORDER (NO.1) 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that on 4 March 2026 the Borough Council of Calderdale (“the Council”) in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) made the Borough Council of Calderdale (Halifax Central Area) (Controlled Parking Zone) Consolidation Order 2008 (Western Corridor) Variation Order (No.1) 2026, the effects of which will be to introduce:-

One-way streets on:-

Commercial Street – From Crown Street to King Edward Street in a southerly direction

Rawson Street – From Barum Top to Commercial Street in a north-easterly direction

One-way street with contraflow cycling on:-

Commercial Street – From King Edward Street to

Fountain Street in a southerly direction

Prohibition of driving on:-

King Edward Street – Full length (except public service vehicles, licensed taxi’s, pedal cycles and for loading/ unloading in signed bays)

Trinity Road – Powell Street to Commercial Street

(except pedal cycles)

Prescribed routes on:-

Northgate j/w Boad Street (ahead only), Broad Street
j/w Northgate (ahead only) Cow Green j/w George Street (ahead only), Wards End
j/w Fountain Street (ahead only), Commercial Street
j/w Wards End (ahead only), Powell Street
j/w Rawson Street (right turn only), Rawson Street
j/w Commercial Street (right turn only), Central Street
j/w Crown Street (right turn only), Commercial Street
j/w Fountain Street (left turn only)

Prohibition of turning on:-

Northgate j/w North Bridge Street from the northbound to the southbound carriageway of Northgate Pellon Lane j/w Broad Lane from the south-east to the north-westbound carriageway of Pellon Lane

Documents giving more detailed particulars of the order, including the statement of reasons and a plan showing the affected roads are available for inspection at Halifax Central Library, Halifax, HX1 1QG, from, from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm on Mondays to Fridays and 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on Saturdays. Alternatively copies of the documents can be viewed on the Council’s website at https://new.calderdale.gov.uk/streets-and-transport/transport-initiatives/tro/current-tro/a629-phase-2-western-corridor or can be made available on request via email a629phase2tro@ calderdale.gov.uk or telephone 01422 288001 or 288002.

The Order will come into effect on 17 March 2026.

If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the ground that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any requirement of that Act or any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may within 6 weeks from the date on which the Order was made (i.e. 4 March 2026) apply to the High Court for this purpose.
