Fratton Road - Temporary Road Closure
What is happening?

Portsmouth City Council (Fratton Road) (Temporary Road Closure) (Temporary Prohibition of Loading and Waiting) (No.63) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that Portsmouth City Council intends to make the above Order under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
The Order comes into operation from 22nd March 2026 and the effect will be as follows:
A) TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE AND PROHIBITION OF LOADING AND WAITING
FRATTON ROAD (NORTHBOUND)
From its junction with St Mary's Road to its junction with Lake Road.
MANOR ROAD
From its junction with Fratton Road for 20 metres.
HANWAY ROAD
From its junction with Fratton Road to Kilmston Close.
HAMPSHIRE STREET
From its junction with Fratton Road for 50 metres.
LAKE ROAD
From its junction with Fratton Road for 120 metres.
B) TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF LOADING AND WAITING
TURNER ROAD
From its junction with Lake Road to side of 211 Lake Road (Ladbrokes).
C) TEMPORARY FOOTWAY CLOSURE
FRATTON ROAD (NORTHBOUND)
From its junction with Lake Road to its junction with Hanway Road.
LAKE ROAD (EASTBOUND)
From its junction with Kilmiston Close Footpath At 6-15 And 27-32 Leading To Lake Road to its junction with Fratton Road.
Kilmiston Close Footpaths At 21/38 And Side Of 39 Leading To Lake Road.
From its junction with Lake Road for 10 metres.
Kilmiston Close Footpath At 6-15 And 27-32 Leading To Lake Road.
From its junction with Lake Road for 8 metres.
D) TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF ONE WAY
MANOR ROAD
From its junction with Cowper Road to its junction with Fratton Road.
E) REASON FOR THE ORDER
To facilitate works for improvement to carriageway and footway, and traffic signal upgrades from Hanway Road to Manor Road.
F) DURATION OF THE ORDER
From 22nd March 2026 to 2nd July 2026 or completion of the works, whichever is sooner. Notwithstanding the above, works will take place in sections as notified by signage and letters to residents in advance of works taking place.
G) DIVERSION
Vehicles will be diverted from:
Manor Road - Cowper Road, Manor Road, Shakespeare Road, Ernest Road, New Road, Kingston Road; and
Hanway Road - Hanway Road, Washington Road, Kingston Road, Hampshire Street; and
Hampshire Street - Ernest Road, New Road, Kingston Road Fratton Road; and
St Mary's Road - Milton Road, Copnor Road, New Road, Kingston Road, Lake Road; and
Lake Road, Holbrook Road, Victoria Road North, Fratton Road, Lake Road and Lake Road, Cornmill Street, Commercial Road Mile End Road, Kingston Crescent, Kingston Road, Fratton Road.
Pedestrian access will be maintained around the works.
Fratton Road footway: Pedestrians will be diverted from Lake Road, Longs Walk Footpath Rear Of 1-7 Leading To Lake Road, Kilmiston Close Footpath At 39-40 And To The Rear Of 41-43, Kilminston Close, Hanway Road, Fratton Road.
Cycles to follow vehicle diversion or dismount and follow pedestrian diversion around the works.
