ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -
SECTION 14
THE A1(M) MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 42 TO
JUNCTION 44) AND THE M1 MOTORWAY
(JUNCTION 46 TO JUNCTION 48)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A1(M) Motorway and the M1 Motorway, in the Cities of Leeds and Wakefield, to enable structure maintenance and inspections, barrier replacement, lighting replacement, earthworks, cable and ducts works, drainage replacement and carriageway resurfacing works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Saturday 14 March 2026 for 4.5 months, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to impose a
temporary 50mph speed restriction on the:
(i) A1(M) northbound carriageway from the entry slip road at Junction 42 (Selby Fork) to the entry slip road at Junction 44 (Bramham roundabout), a distance of 12270 metres;
(ii) M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 47 (Parlington) to it’s merge with the A1(M) northbound carriageway at Hook Moor (M1 Junction 48,
A1(M) Junction 43), a distance of
2500 metres; and
(iii) A1(M) northbound exit slip road at Junction 44. It will be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6” in specified lanes of the A1(M) and M1 as described in the lengths of carriageway as described in (i) and (ii).
It will also be necessary to close, at times during the works, between 8pm and 6pm, the:
(iv) A1(M) northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 42 (Selby Fork) to the entry slip road at Junction 44 (Bramham roundabout), a distance of 13130 metres;
(v) M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 46 to its merge with the A1(M) northbound carriageway at Hook Moor, a distance of 8500 metres;
(vi) M1 northbound entry slip road at Junction 46;
(vii) M1 northbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 47;
(viii) A1(M) northbound entry slip road at Junction 42;
(ix) A1(M) northbound exit slip road at Junction 44; and
(x) link road connecting the A1(M) northbound carriageway with the A64 Trunk Road eastbound carriageway at Bramham Crossroads (A1(M) Junction 44).
During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 13 March 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
