What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF HILLTHORNE CLOSE, WASHINGTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 4th March 2026 made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit vehicles along Hillthorne Close, Washington, from its junction with Oxclose Road, for its entire length. The Order is required to facilitate gas main works on or near the road. The Order will come into operation on 27th March 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 18 months, however it is estimated the closure will only be in operation for approximately 22 days from commencement of the works. All vehicles will be prohibited from the above road (except vehicles involved in the works and emergency service vehicles on duty and attending an emergency call) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
