What is happening?

Highways

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

CANTERBURY AREA

Denstead Lane, Chartham Hatch.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow pole and cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Denstead Lane, Chartham Hatch from 25th March 2026 with estimated completion by 26th March 2026, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed south of the junction with A2 heading 100m in a southerly direction, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic northbound for vehicles under 12’0” is via Denstead Lane, Gravel Hill, Howfield Lane, A28 Ashford Road, Thanington Road, A2 Dover Road and Denstead Lane.

The alternative route for any through traffic northbound for vehicles over 12’0” is via Denstead Lane, Gravel Hill, Town Lane, Hatch Lane, A28 Ashford Road, Thanington Road, A2 Dover Road and Denstead Lane.

The alternative route for any through traffic southbound for vehicles under 12’0” is via Denstead Lane, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dunkirk Slip westbound Off, Canterbury Road, A2 Dover Road, Harbledown Slip Eastbound Off, A2050 Harbledown Bypass Rheims Way, A28 Wincheap, Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Howfield Lane, Gravel Hill and Denstead Lane.

The alternative route for any through traffic southbound for vehicles over 12’0” is via Denstead Lane, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dunkirk Slip Westbound Off, Canterbury Road, A2 Dover Road, Harbledown Slip Eastbound Off, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, A2050 Rheims Way, A28 Wincheap, Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Hatch Lane, Town Lane, Gravel Hill and Denstead Lane.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Kemp Road, Whitstable, CT5 2PZ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow carriageway works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Kemp Road, Whitstable from 11th March 2026, with estimated completion by 13th March 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside number 34, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Kemp Road, Bridgefield Road, St Swithins Road, Swalecliffe Road, Kemp Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Marine Crescent, Whitstable, CT5 2QF (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow water pipe repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Marine Crescent, Whitstable from 10th March 2026, with estimated completion by 12th March 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 44 Herne Bay Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Marine Crescent, B2205 Herne Bay Road, Priest Walk, Princess Road, Marine Crescent and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Merton Lane, Lower Hardres, CT4 7BB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow water pipe repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Merton Lane, Lower Hardres from 9th March 2026, with estimated completion by 11th March 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside Court Barn, Stuppington Court Farm, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Merton Lane, Iffin Lane, Chartham Downs Road, B2068 Street End, Faussett Hill, Nackington Road, Merton Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Merton Lane, Lower Hardres, CT4 7BD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow tree cutting works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Merton Lane, Lower Hardres from 23rd March 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between Farnham House and the junction with Iffin Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Iffin Lane, Chartham Downs Road, B2068 Street End, Faussett Hill, Nackington Road, Merton Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Mystole Lane, Mystole, CT4 7BX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow fire hydrant renewal works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Mystole Lane, Mystole from 10th March 2026, with estimated completion by 18th March 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Underdown Nurseries, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Mystole Lane, Chartham Downs Road, Shalmsford Street, A28 Canterbury Road, Mystole Lane, Pickleden Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Northwood Road, Whitstable, CT5 2LB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow frame and cover works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Northwood Road, Whitstable from 23rd March 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junction with St Annes Road and number 7 Fitzroy Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Northwood Road, Castle Road, Queens Road, Bennells Avenue and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Queens Road, Whitstable, CT5 2JG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow water pipe repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Queens Road, Whitstable from 11th March 2026, with estimated completion by 13th March 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside number 27, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Queens Road, St Annes Road, Northwood Road, Castle Road, Queens Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Station Road, Adisham.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow drainage cleansing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Station Road, Adisham from 11th March 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between number 1 and the railway bridge, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Station Road, B2046 Adisham Road, High Street, A257 Canterbury Road, Wingham Road, Bekesbourne Lane, Station Road, School Lane, Chalkpit Hill, Adisham Road, Adisham Downs Road, Pond Hill, Station Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



The Maltings, Littlebourne, CT3 1ST (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of The Maltings, Littlebourne from 11th March 2026, with estimated completion by 13th March 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside numbers 4 and 5, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Union Road, Bridge, CT4 5NB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow defect works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on Union Road, Bridge from 9th March 2026, with estimated completion by 11th March 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Saxon Road, Western Avenue, High Street, Union Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Various Footpaths, Canterbury.​ (PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow the Canterbury City Council levelling up project to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting pedestrians from travelling on various footpaths in Canterbury, in phases, from 9th March 2026, with estimated completion by 31st May 2026, or until the works have been completed.

Phase 1 - Dane John Gardens

The footpath will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site. The alternative route for any pedestrians is via City Wall and vice versa.

Phase 1 - St Georges Terrace

The footpath will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site. The alternative route for any pedestrians is via Watling Street, St Georges Lane and vice versa.

Phase 1 - Gas Passage

The footpath will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site. The alternative route for any pedestrians is via Castle Street, Castle Row and vice versa.

Phase 2 - City Wall

The footpath will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site. The alternative route for any pedestrians is via Dane John Gardens, Watling Street and vice versa.



Various Roads, Canterbury.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & PEDESTRIANS) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2026

To allow events to take place for the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic & pedestrian access on part of various roads in Canterbury. Restrictions are planned from 25th March 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00.

Closure Schedule

The following roads will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles at their junctions with High Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site:

• Guildhall Street

• Mercery Lane

• Butchery Lane

• Longmarket

The following roads will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles at the extents listed below, to where indicated by signs and barriers on site:

• Iron Lane will be closed at the junction with Burgate.

• Burgate will be closed at the junction with Canterbury Lane.

• Orange Street will be closed at the junction with Best Lane.

• St Alphege Lane will be closed at the junction with King Street.

• Palace Street will be closed at the junction with Borough.

The alternative routes for through traffic and pedestrians will be indicated by signs and barriers on site.
