What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (HERRINGTON COUNTRY PARK RADIO 1 BIG WEEKEND 2026) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026


Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 2nd March 2026 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) in order to facilitate the holding of a relevant event namely the Herrington Country Park Radio 1 Big Weekend 2026 (‘The Event’) which is to take place from 22nd May 2026 until 24th May 2026, and to enable the participants to take part in and the public to spectate the Event. The effect of the Order is to prohibit all vehicular, pedestrian, equestrian and cycle traffic along, and prohibit all vehicles from waiting and loading or unloading at any time along, the lengths of roads specified in Schedule 1 and to prohibit all pedestrian, equestrian and cycle traffic along, the footpaths, bridleways and public rights of way specified in Schedule 2. The Order comes into force at 06.30am on Wednesday 4th March 2026 and cease at 23.59pm on 21st June 2026. During the Event, diversions will be signposted via the adjacent highway network where applicable. The prohibitions shall apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. There are exemptions in the Order for police, fire and rescue services and ambulance vehicles on emergency call and vehicles being used in connection with the Event. SCHEDULE 1 All carriageways associated with Herrington Country Park will be closed for their entire lengths. SCHEDULE 2 All footpaths, Public Rights of Ways and bridleways associated with Herrington Country Park will be closed for their entire lengths.
