York, Multiple Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 19 February 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4) & (5). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (6), (7) & (8).

(1) LIMEGARTH, POPPLETON

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Limegarth, Poppleton between the projected western boundary of property no. 11 and a location 20 metres east of said projected boundary (closed road) during the period when electricity grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Friday, 20 February 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Monday, 02 March 2026 (works period) or a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(2) LEEMAN ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Leeman Road, York between its junction with Cinder Lane and a location 226 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when National Railway Museum development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Friday, 20 February 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 20 August 2027 (works period) or a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. This Order will replace The York (Leeman Road) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) (No.4) Order 2025 which will be revoked at 0001hrs on Friday, 20 February 2026 (revoked order). An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Cinder Street, Park Street.

(3) TOWTHORPE ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, HAXBY

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Towthorpe Road Level Crossing, Haxby between the junctions with Mallard Way and Linley Avenue (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2300hrs on Sunday, 22 February 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Monday, 23 February 2026 (works period) or a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Station Road, York Road, Haxby Road, A1237, Strensall Road.

(4) SCARCROFT ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Scarcroft Road, York between its junctions with The Mount and Scarcroft Hill (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 23 February 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Sunday, 22 March 2026 (works period) or a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via The Mount, Blossom Street, Nunnery Lane, Bishopthorpe Road.

(5) GRANGE GARTH, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Grange Garth, York between its junction with New Walk Terrace and a location 46 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 23 February 2026 and ending at 2000hrs on Thursday, 26 February 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Fulford Road, Grange Street.

(6) PICCADILLY, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in the south-east bound lane on Piccadilly, York between its junctions with St Deny’s Road and Merchangate (closed traffic lane) during the period when building development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 02 March 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Saturday, 31 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, left hand turns from Dennis Street into Piccadilly will be suspended for the works period. All ‘on-street’ parking places situated on the north-eastern side of Piccadilly between its junctions with Dennis Street and Merchangate (suspension area) will also be subject to suspension. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Merchangate, Walmgate, St Deny’s Road.

(7) SCAWTON AVENUE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Scawton Avenue, York between its junction with Whitestone Drive and a location 58 metres north of said junction (closed road) during the period when electric mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 02 March 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 13 March 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(8) HODGSON LANE, POPPLETON

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Hodgson Lane, Poppleton between its junctions with the A59 Nursery To Red Lion and Westfield Lane (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 04 March 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 06 March 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Station Road, A59 Nursery to Red Lion.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
