What is happening?

SANDWELL METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Windmill Lane, Smethwick)
(Temporary One-Way Operation) Order 2026 has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding, other than in a northerly direction, along Windmill Lane, Smethwick from its junction with Cape Hill for a distance of 95 metres. A diversion route for southbound traffic will be signed via Grove Lane & Cape Hill. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 20/02/2026, effective from 16/02/2026. Purpose – to facilitate maintenance works to the electricity network (the installation/repair of a new link box). The Borough Council of Sandwell (Rabone Lane, Smethwick)
(Temporary Road Closures) Order 2026
has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Rabone Lane, which will be closed from the junction with Cornwall Road & Foundry Lane to the ‘OUT’ gate for Unimetals (southern side). Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Cornwall Road, Downing Street, Bridge Street North, Rolfe Street & vice versa. A second diversion route will be signed via Foundry Lane, Wellington Street, Winson Green Road, Heath Street, Cranford Street, Soho Way, Soho Street & vice versa. The road closures will be in operation on 18th February 2026 (9:30am - 3:30pm) & 27th February - 1st March 2026 (24hr). The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 01/03/2026 effective from 18/02/2026. Purpose – to facilitate access for maintenance works associated with a telecom’s cabinet and the replacement of a pole by WHP Telecoms Ltd. The Borough Council of Sandwell (Abberley Street and Dugdale Street, Smethwick)
(Temporary Road Closures) Order 2026
has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Abberley Street, which will be closed from the junction of the Heathfield Industrial Estate (western side) to a point 30 metres past the junction of Dugdale Street in a westerly direction, and Dugdale Street, which will closed at the junction of Abberley Street for 30 metres. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained but only when safety permits. A traffic diversion route for the Abberley Street closure will be signed via Halberton Street, Dudley Road, Winson Street & vice versa. A traffic diversion route for the Dugdale Street closure will be signed via Winson Street, Dudley Road (westerly direction) & Halberton Street. A further diversion route for the Dugdale Street closure will be signed via Dudley Road (easterly direction). Both closures will be in force on the same dates. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 23/02/2026, effective from 16/02/2026. Purpose – to facilitate access for telecommunication works and the installation of a new service pole by WHP Telecoms Ltd.

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Lower City Road, Oldbury)
(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026
has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Lower City Road, which will be closed at the junction of Dudley Road East. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Dudley Road East, Dudley Road West, Hainge Road & vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 22/02/2026, effective from 14/02/2026 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access for gas main replacement work by Cadent Gas Ltd.

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Spon Lane, West Bromwich)
(Temporary One-Way Road Closure) and (Bache Street, Bell Street,
Sandwell College Access Road, Sams Lane, Varney Avenue and
Watton Street, West Bromwich) (No Left Turning Restrictions) and
(Boulton Road, Cottage Walk, George Street and Parliament Street, West Bromwich)
(No Right Turning Restrictions) Order 2026
has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding one-way in a northerly direction along Spon Lane, which will be closed between the junctions of Kelvin Way & West Bromwich Ringway. Traffic will be diverted via Kelvin Way, Trinity Way, High Street & West Bromwich Ringway. The order intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding via a left turn from Bache Street, Bell Street, Sams Lane, Sandwell College access road, Varney Avenue & Watton Street to Spon Lane. The order also intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding via a right turn from Boulton Road, Cottage Walk, George Street & Parliament Street to Spon Lane. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 26/04/2026, effective from 16/02/2026. The Borough Council of Sandwell (Owen Street & Factory Road, Tipton)
(Temporary Road Closure & Right Turn Ban) Order 2026
has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Owen Street, which will be closed from west of its junction with Wood Street to the western boundary line of The Fountain Inn. Factory Road will also be closed from its junction with Owen Street for approximately 20 metres. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained but only when safety permits. A rights turn ban will be in place at the junction of Wood Street & Owen Street for the duration of the Owen Street closure. A traffic diversion route will be signed for the Owen Street closure via Park Lane West, Sedgley Road East, Dudley Port, Lower Church Lane & vice versa. A traffic diversion route will be signed for the Factory Road closure via Furnace Parade & Brick Kiln Street. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 13/03/2026, effective from 16/02/2026 (24hrs).
