What is happening?

HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF A414 NORTH ORBITAL ROAD, ST ALBANS / COLNEY HEATH / HATFIELD AND A1001 COMET WAY, HATFIELD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”):-

  1. that length of A414 North Orbital Road, St Albans/Colney Heath/Hatfield from its junction with Colney Heath Lane north eastwards to its junction with the A1001 Comet Way/A1(M) (junction 3) roundabout, a distance of approximately 1950m.

An alternative route will be via A414 North Orbital Road, A1081 (London Road/Chequer Street/St Peters Street), A1057 (Hatfield Road/St Albans Road West), B6426 Cavendish Way, Bishops Rise and A1001 (South Way/Roehyde Way) or via A414 North Orbital Road, A1081 (London Colney Bypass/Bell Link Overbridge), the M25, A1(M) and A1001 Roehyde Way.

  1. that length of A1001 Comet Way, Hatfield from its junction with the A414 North Orbital Road/A1(M) (junction 3) roundabout north westwards and north eastwards to its junction with the A1057 St Albans Road West/B6426 Cavendish Way roundabout, a distance of approximately 978m.

An alternative route will be via A414 North Orbital Road, A1081 (London Road/Chequer Street/St Peters Street), A1057 Hatfield Road and A1057 St Albans Road West.

The Order is needed because road marking works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.

If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 21 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF B158 (UNNAMED ROAD), ESSENDON) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of B158 (unnamed road), Essendon from its junction with B1455 Holwell Lane north eastwards and south eastwards to its junction with Station Road, a distance of approximately 427m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via B1455 Holwell Lane, A414 (Hatfield Road/Cole Green Bypass/Hertingfordbury Road/Gascoigne Way) and B158 (Hale Road/Pegs Lane/Bullocks Lane/Horns Mill Road/Lower Hatfield Road).

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 23 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CHURCH LANE, NORTHAW) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Church Lane, Northaw from a point in line with the northern boundary of No.26 Church Lane north westwards for a distance of approximately 40m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via Church Lane, B156 Northaw Road West, Vineyards Road, Vicarage Close and Church Lane.

The Order is needed because gas service connection works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order has been made and shall come into force on 9 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF KIMPTON ROAD, WELWYN) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Kimpton Road, Welwyn from its junction with St Albans Road south eastwards, north eastwards, eastwards, south westwards and south eastwards to its junction with Oakhill Drive, a distance of approximately 11293m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via St Albans Road, B656 (High Street/Codicote Road), Fulling Mill Lane and Kimpton Road.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order has been made and shall come into force on 11 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.
