What is happening?

North Yorkshire Council, Hambleton Grove, Knaresborough, Prohibition of Heavy Commercial Vehicles, Experimental Traffic Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that on 23/01/26 The North Yorkshire Council made an Order under Sections 9 & 10 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 & Part IV of Schedule 9 to the 1984 Act, the effect of which is to prohibit any heavy commercial vehicle from proceeding in either direction along those lengths of road specified in columns 2 & 3 set out in the Schedule to this Order between 7.00am & 9.30am & between 3.00pm & 4.30pm for an experimental period of 18 months. A copy of the Order, which comes into force on 13/02/26, together with a map showing the road affected & a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order may be inspected at County Hall, Northallerton & at Knaresborough Library, Jockey Lane, Knaresborough HG5 0HB during normal office hours from 05/02/26 until 13/08/26 & also viewed online at

The Council will be considering, in due course, whether the provisions of the Order should be continued in force indefinitely. Within a period of 6 months from the coming into force of the Order, or if the Order is subsequently varied or modified, from the coming into operation of that variation or modification (whichever is the later), any person may object to the making of an Order for the purposes of such indefinite continuation. Any person wishing to object to the indefinite continuation of the Order must state the grounds for their objection, in writing, addressed to Area 6 Boroughbridge Highways Office, Stump Cross, Boroughbridge, York YO51 9HU or by email to

If any person wishes to question the validity of the above Experimental Order or of any provision contained in it, on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act, or of any instrument made under it, has not been complied with in relation to the Order, they may, within 6 weeks of 23/01/26 make application to the High Court for that purpose.
