Hetton Footpath - Temporary Traffic Regulation
What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (HETTON FOOTPATH 2, HETTON-LE-HOLE) Temporary traffic regulation ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice in accordance with Regulation 7 of the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) regulation 1992 that on 2nd February 2026 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the sections of footpaths described in the schedule. The Order is required to allow for maintenance works to the footpaths and footbridge. The order comes into force on 7th February 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. It is anticipated that the works will be completed in phases throughout the 6 month period, with a 3 week duration for each phase. However, it is anticipated that the works will take approximately three weeks. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the sections of footpaths described in the schedule (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
Schedule: Hetton Footpath 2 from its junction with North Road to a point 96 metres west of its junction with Houghton Road; and Hetton Bogs Footpath from its junction with Hetton Footpath 2 for a distance of 360 metres in a predominantly south easterly direction.
