What is happening?

(Southwick: Old Shoreham Road Service Road)

(Temporary Closure) Order 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that not less than 7 days from the date of this notice, WSCC intends to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily close Old Shoreham Road Service Road in Southwick from its junction with Lower Drive, eastwards to its junction with Overhill.

The road closure is needed to allow gas mains to be replaced in safety.

The Order will come into effect on 16 February 2026 and remain in force until 20 March 2026. Once made, the Order may remain in force for up to 18 months, or until the proposed works are completed, whichever is earlier.

During the operative periods of this Order alternative routes for vehicles will be indicated on site. Access to properties on the affected length of road will be maintained at all times. (Sompting: Public Footpath 2071) (Temporary Closure) Order 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that WSCC has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily close Public Footpath 2071 in Sompting, from its junction with Dancton Lane, north-westwards to its junction with the A27.

The closure of this route is needed to maintain safety while a property development is constructed on adjacent land. The Order will come into effect on 1 February 2026 and remain in force for 6 months, or until the proposed works are completed, whichever is earlier.

Unfortunately, during the operative period of this Order, no direct alternative route is available via the public rights of way network.

(Roads Maintenance Programme) 

(Temporary Traffic Regulation) Order 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that WSCC has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily close, temporarily prohibit waiting at any time and temporarily introduce a 20MPH speed limit throughout the whole length (unless otherwise stated) of the flowing roads in Adur District and Worthing Borough:

LANCING: Coombes Road from Sussex Pad Access Road to the A27, Old Shoreham Road, Sompting Road/Boundstone Lane, Sussex Pad Access Road, The Triangle, Western Close, Western Road from the A259 to St Pauls Avenue, Winston Road.

SHOREHAM-BY-SEA: Connaught Avenue/Swiss Gardens, Orchard Close. SOMPTING: Hillbarn Parade, Steepdown Road,

Valley Road from Hillside Road to Steepdown Road. WORTHING:

Christchurch Road From Abbotts Close to Richmond Road,

Columbia Drive, Dale Road, Drummond Road, Durrington Lane,

Exmoor Crescent, Goring Road from Parklands Avenue to Elm Grove, Hudson Close, Longlands Spinney, Richmond Road from Victoria Road to Chapel Road, Romany Road from Poplar Road to Tasman Way, Shaftesbury Avenue from Goring Road to Marlborough Road, Torridge Close.

These restrictions are needed to allow road maintenance works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to take up to three days and dates for works will be confirmed in advance locally nearer the time they are carried out.

The Order will come into effect on 2 February 2026 and remain in force for up to 18 months, or until the proposed programme of works is completed, whichever is earlier.

During the operative periods of this Order alternative routes for vehicles will be indicated on site. Access to properties on the affected length of road will be maintained at all times.

Worthing: St Lawrence Avenue Pedestrian Crossing Place And

(St Lawrence Avenue Amendment) Order 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that WSCC proposes to install a new zebra crossing at the eastern end of St Lawrence Avenue in Worthing, approximately mid-way between its junction with South Farm Road and the northern entrance to Worthing High School.

NOTICE is also hereby given that WSCC proposes to make a permanent Traffic regulation Order under the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to amend the parking restrictions at the eastern end of St Lawrence Avenue to accommodate the new pedestrian crossing described above. The effect of these changes will to be to remove existing single yellow line restrictions on both sides of the road and an existing parking bay (waiting limited to 1 hr 08:30 hours to 1800 hours) on the north side of St Lawrence Avenue, replacing them with a restriction prohibiting waiting at any time.

People without access to a computer who wish to view details of the scheme should telephone the WSCC Contact Centre on 01243 642105 to receive the documents by post.
