Footpath in Knockin - Public Path Diversion Order

What is happening?

Notice of Confirmation and Coming into Operation of Public Path Order and Definitive Map and Statement Modification Order, Highways Act 1980
Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
THE SHROPSHIRE COUNCIL (FOOTPATH 2 (PART) PARISH OF KNOCKIN) PUBLIC PATH DIVERSION ORDER 2025

On 29th January 2026, The Shropshire Council (the “Council”) confirmed the above-named Order made under section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 and section 53A(2) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. The effect of the Order as confirmed is to; divert the full width of that part of Footpath 2 from Point A on the Order Map grid reference SJ 3314 2238, running in a general westerly, then WNW direction to meet Restricted Byway 1 at Point B on the Order Map grid reference SJ 3298 2241. A total distance of approximately 161 metres onto a line from Point A on the Order Map grid reference SJ 3314 2238, a footpath will be created running first in a general NW, then northerly direction, along a field edge. It then turns to run in a westerly direction, through a gate at grid reference SJ 3313 2241 and along a natural surface, before turning to run along an unsealed track in a general SW then WNW direction to meet Restricted Byway 1 at a gate at Point C on the Order Map grid reference SJ 3299 2242. A total distance of approximately 197 metres, with a width of 2 metres throughout.

Shropshire Council certify that the Order becomes operative on 10th December 2025; but if a person aggrieved by the Order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980, as amended, or on the ground that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or any regulation made under the Act has not been complied with in relation to the Order, he or she may, under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within 6 weeks from 29th January 2026 make an application to the High Court.
