Cumberland - Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance and Resurfacing works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (B5345 PRESTON STREET, WHITEHAVEN AND C4001 LOWCA) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable carriageway resurfacing and reconstruction works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:
C4001 Lowca, from a point approx. 70m north of its junction with the U4007, Foundry Road, extending in an overall northerly direction for approx. 500m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C4001, A597, and A595.
Duration: From 16 February 2026 for approx. 12 days (Ref: TTROCI/7355)
B5345 Preston Street, Whitehaven from a point approx. 90m north west of its junction with Coach Road, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 280m.
Alternative Route (taking into consideration the one-way streets): via the unrestricted sections of Preston Street, New Town, Strand Street, Duke Street, Scotch Street, Irish Street, Flatt Walks, Back Corkickle, Inkerman Terrace, Egremont Road, A595, Copper Lane, B5345, St Bees Road, Low Road, Meadow View, and Ginns.
Duration: From 2 March 2026 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTROCI/7093)
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times

The Order will come into operation on 16 February 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months.
However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
