Dairy Lane and Thornhill Street - Traffic Regulation Order
What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (DAIRY LANE AND THORNHILL STREET, hOUGHTON-LE-SPRING) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 27th January 2026 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the sections of footways and associated footpaths described in the schedule. The Order is required to allow for replacement of the gas main. The order comes into force on 9th February 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, it is anticipated that the works will take approximately five weeks. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the sections of footways and footpaths described in the schedule (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided. Schedule: Dairy Lane the entire length of footpath from the Rectory to its western extent, a distance of 120 metres; and Thornhill Street the entire length of footpath linking Thornhill Street and Burn Promenade.
