What is happening?

SOUTHEND-ON-SEA CITY COUNCIL

SECTIONS 53 AND 70, LOCAL GOVERNMENT (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT 1976

HACKNEY CARRIAGE, PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR’S LICENCE FEES

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the above Act that Southend-on-Sea City Council proposes to vary the statutory permissible fees chargeable for Hackney Carriage, Private Hire Vehicle and Operator’s Licences.

The charges set out below will take effect on 1 March 2026 (subject to approval by Cabinet) unless objection is made and not withdrawn.

Hackney Carriage Vehicle Licence

1 Year ..................................................... £405.00

Private Hire Vehicle Licence

1 Year ..................................................... £360.00

Private Hire Operators Licence

5 Years .................................................. £1,485.00

Between 2 & 3 years ......................... £1,245.00

Less than 2 Years .............................. £1000.00

1 year 3 or less vehicles .................. £140.00

In accordance with Section 70 (3) (b) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 a copy of this notice may be inspected without payment during normal office hours at the Council’s offices for a period of 28 days from the date of this notice. Objections should be mailed to the above address or emailed to placeconsultations@southend.gov.uk stating the reasons for the objection.

If objection is duly made as aforesaid and is not withdrawn, the variation shall come into force on 1 April 2026 with or without modification as decided by Southend-on-Sea City Council Licensing Committee after consideration of the objections.
