What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD
(FELLING BYPASS, GATESHEAD)
(SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION AND ROAD CLOSURE)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that on the 21 January 2026 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) and 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to introduce a temporary speed limit restriction and prohibition to vehicles as set out in the Schedule below.

The Order is required to facilitate works to install new VRS barriers in the highway and ensure the safety of site workers and public safety. The Order will come into force on 28 January 2026.

The maximum duration of the Order will be 18 months; however, the works are expected to be completed on the 25 March 2026.

During the works all vehicles (except emergency service vehicles on duty), will observe the temporary speed limit as set out below. During the works all vehicles (except vehicles associated with the works and emergency service vehicles on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the roads as set out below.

These provisions will be in place until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs.

During the prohibition there will be a signed diversion in place.
