Hertfordshire - Multiple Temporary Closures and Traffic Restrictions due to Works
What is happening?
HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:
(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND TEMPORARY WAITING RESTRICTIONS IN A505 BALDOCK BYPASS, BALDOCK/A505 ROYSTON ROAD, WALLINGTON/SLIP END AND A505 BALDOCK ROAD, THERFIELD) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of A505 Baldock Bypass, Baldock/A505 Royston Road, Wallington/Slip End and A505 Baldock Road, Therfield from its junction with the B197 London Road roundabout north eastwards to its junction with the A505 Royston Bypass roundabout, a distance of approximately 13323m (“the length of Roads”), except for access.
An alternative route will be via A505 Baldock Bypass, B197 (Jacks Hill/High Street/Graveley Road), A602 Hitchin Road, A1072 Gunnels Wood Road, A602 (Broadhall Way/Hooks Cross/Watton at Stone Bypass/Ware Road/Townell Bypass/Westmill Road), A10 (unnamed road/Wadesmill Bypass/unnamed road/Ermine Street/London Road/Market Hill/Priory Lane/Melbourn Road) and A505 Royston Bypass
or via A505 Royston Bypass, A10 (Melbourn Road/Priory Lane/Barkway Street/London Road/Ermine Street/unnamed road/Buntingford Bypass/unnamed road/Wadesmill Bypass/unnamed road), A602 (Westmill Road/Townell Bypass/Ware Road/Watton at Stone Bypass/Hooks Cross/Broadhall Way), A1072 Gunnels Wood Road, A602 Hitchin Road, B197 (Graveley Road/High Street/Jacks Hill) and A505 Baldock Bypass.
ADDITIONALLY all vehicles are prohibited from waiting at any time on both sides of the length of Roads while works are in progress.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the length of Roads.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 9 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the length of Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF WOOLGROVE ROAD, HITCHIN) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Woolgrove Road, Hitchin from its junction with Grove Road south eastwards for a distance of approximately 145m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via Grove Road, A505 (Nightingale Road/ Cambridge Road) and Woolgrove Road.
The Order is needed because railway bridge works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 7 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF LILLEY ROAD/HEXTON ROAD, HEXTON) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Lilley Road/Hexton Road, Hexton from its junction with B655 Barton Road southwards, south eastwards, south westwards, south eastwards, south eastwards, south eastwards, north eastwards and south eastwards for a distance of approximately 1495m (“the length of Roads”).
An alternative route will be via Lilley Road, B655 (Barton Road/Hitchin Road/Hexton Road/Pirton Road), A505 (Offley Road/Moorhead Hill/Offley Bypass), Offley Hill, Luton Road, Hollybush Hill, Lilley Bottom, West Street, East Street and Hexton Road
or via Hexton Road, East Street, West Street, Lilley Bottom, Hollybush Hill, Luton Road, Offley Hill, C134 (unnamed road), A505 (Offley Bypass/ Moorhead Hill/Offley Road), B655 (Pirton Road/Hexton Road/Hitchin Road/ Barton Road) and Lilley Road.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the length of Roads.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 9 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the length of Roads.

(TEMPORARY 30MPH SPEED RESTRICTIONS ON A1072 GUNNELS WOOD ROAD, STEVENAGE) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from being driven at a speed exceeding 30mph on that length of A1072 Gunnels Wood Road, Stevenage from its junction with the A602 Broadhall Way roundabout north westwards to its junction with the A1070 Six Hills Way roundabout, a distance of approximately 1092m (“the Road”), when signs are in place.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 9 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF THE TWITCHELL, BALDOCK) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of The Twitchell, Baldock from its junction with Thurnall Close north westwards for a distance of approximately 15m (“the Road”).
There is no alternative route available for vehicles when the works are being carried out. However vehicular access to properties in this road will be maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works.
The Order is needed because utility service connection works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 9 February 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF THE CYCLE TRACK SITUATED ON THE NORTH EAST SIDE OF A602 HITCHIN ROAD, STEVENAGE) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all pedal cycles from using the cycle track situated on the north east side of A602 Hitchin Road, Stevenage from a point in line with the southern boundary of No.51 Whitney Road south eastwards for a distance of approximately 70m (“the Cycle Track”).
Pedal Cyclists will need to dismount and use the adjacent footway.
The Order has been made because utility works are proposed to be executed on or near the Cycle Track.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 26 January 2026 for a period of up to 6 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Cycle Track.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF STEVENAGE ROAD, LITTLE WYMONDLEY) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Stevenage Road, Little Wymondley from its junction with Elms Close north westwards to its junction with Waterloo Mews, a distance of approximately 94m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via Stevenage Road, A602 (Wymondley Bypass/Stevenage Road) and Stevenage Road.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 27 January 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF THE FOOTPATH SITUATED BETWEEN NO.445 AND NO.447 VARDON ROAD, STEVENAGE) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all pedestrians from using the footpath situated between No.445 and No.447 Vardon Road, Stevenage from its junction with Vardon Road southwards for a distance of approximately 11m (“the Footpath”).
An alternative route will be via the footway situated on the south and east sides of Vardon Road, the footpath situated on the south side of No.457 Vardon Road and the footpath situated between No.445 and No.447 Vardon Road.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Footpath.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 29 January 2026 for a period of up to 6 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Footpath.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CHAPEL ROAD, BREACHWOOD GREEN) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Chapel Road, Breachwood Green from a point in line with the northern boundary of “The Manse” southwards for a distance of approximately 50m (“the Road”), except for access.
An alternative route will be via Chapel Road, Oxford Road, Lower Road, Luton Road, Lilley Bottom and Chapel Road.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 26 January 2026 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF THE FOOTPATH SITUATED ON THE EAST SIDE OF NOS.3-14 CHURCHYARD, HITCHIN) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all pedestrians from using the footpath situated on the east side of Nos.3-14 Churchyard, Hitchin from a point in line with the northern boundary of No.14 Churchyard south westwards for a distance of approximately 27m (“the Footpath”).
An alternative route will be via the footpath situated on the east side of Nos.3-14 Churchyard, the footpath situated on the north side of No.13 High Street, the footway situated on the south east side of Bancroft, the footway situated on the south east side of High Street, the footway situated on the north east side of Market Place and the footpath situated on the east side of Nos.3-14 Churchyard.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Footpath.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 26 January 2026 for a period of up to 6 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Footpath.
