Cockermouth, Temporary Road Closures Due To North Lakes Half Marathon

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN COCKERMOUTH TOWN CENTRE) (NORTH LAKES HALF MARATHON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of the North Lakes Half Marathon (“the Event”) in Cockermouth, Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following lengths of road in Cockermouth:

  1. Market Street (back lane) (Bitterbeck Car Park), for its entire length; and

  2. Market Street, from its junction with Market Place, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 30m; and

  3. Market Place, from its junction with Kirkgate, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 100m; and

  4. Kirkgate, from its junction with Market Place/St Helen’s Street, extending in a southerly direction for approx. 250m.

  5. St Helen’s Street, from its junction with Kirkgate, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 940m.

Approx duration: Between 0700 and 1300 hours on Sunday 8 February 2026.

Suitable alternative routes for vehicles will be signed and available along the surrounding roads and streets, whilst taking into consideration any one-way restrictions.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

N.B: Access/egress for residents affected by the road closures, will be managed by traffic management operatives/marshals on the day.

The Order will come into operation on 8 February 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of three days from that date. However, please note it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required on Sunday 8 February 2026 during the times stated above or until normal traffic operation can be resumed, whichever is sooner, and as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.

Cumberland Council is satisfied that traffic on the roads detailed at 1 to 5 above hereto should be restricted to enable the North Lakes Half Marathon to take place.
