What is happening?

West Sussex County Council

(Amberley: Public Footpath No. 2667)
(Temporary Closure) Order 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that not less than 7 days from the date of this notice WSCC intends to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily close Public Footpath No. 2667, Amberley from its eastern end at its junction with Church Street (502726, 113234), westwards for a distance of 65M (502664, 113212). The continued closure of this route is needed to maintain public safety whilst repairs are made to a collapsed wall adjoining the route.

The Order will come into effect on 6 February 2026 and remain in operation for six months or until repair works are completed, whichever is earlier.

Unfortunately, no alternative route is available on the public rights of way network.

(Pulborough: Broomers Hill Lane)
(Temporary Closure) Order 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice WSCC intends to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to close Broomers Hill Lane level crossing point.

The Order is necessary to protect public safety whilst railway infrastructure works are undertaken.

The Order will come into effect on 6 February 2026 and will last for 18 months or until the proposed works are completed, whichever is earlier. It is proposed works will start on or after 6 February 2026 and will take 1 week to complete.

Any queries about the works to take place should be directed to Core Highways (Region) telephone number 0300 0433030. Any queries about the effect of the Order on vehicles using the highway should be directed to WSCC, telephone number 01243 642105.

(Washington: A24 And A283)
(30MPH, 40MPH and 50 MPH Speed Limit)
(Consolidation) Order 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that WSCC made a permanent Order under the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to introduce:-

(i) a 30MPH speed limit on the A24 Washington Roundabout, on sections of the approach arms on the A24, on the A283 The Pike and Storrington Road and on Sandhill Lane; and

(ii) a 50MPH speed limit on a 400m length of the A24 dual carriageway northbound and southbound approaches to Washington Roundabout junction.

The Order will come into operation on 26 January 2026.

Paper copies of documents will not be available to view in council offices or libraries. People without access to a computer who wish to have a copy of the Order should telephone the WSCC Contact Centre on 01243 642105 to receive a copy by post.

Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Order, or of any provision contained therein, on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Act, or on the grounds that any requirements of the act, or of any instrument made under it, has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may within 6 weeks from 22 January 2026, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
