What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (RAMSEY SQUARE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026


Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 21st January 2026 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all vehicle traffic from the full extent of Ramsay Square. The Order is required to facilitate water main connection works. The order comes into force on 2nd February 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be eighteen months. However, the works are expected to be completed within 6 days. All vehicles will be prohibited from the full extent of Ramsay Square (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route cannot be provided.
