Whickham Bank - Temporarily Prohibit Pedestrians

What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD (WHICKHAM BANK – PROHIBITIONS) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that on the 14 January 2026 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the footpath on Whickham Bank from its junction with Whickham Bank (road) in an easterly direction for a distance of 54 metres, and prohibit vehicles from proceeding along the roads as set out in the Schedule below. The Order is required to allow gas main replacement works. The Order will come into force on the 19 January 2026.

The maximum duration of the Order will be 18 months (6 months for pedestrians); however the works are expected to be completed by the 19 July 2026. During the works all pedestrians and vehicles (except pedestrians and vehicles associated with the works and emergency service vehicles/pedestrians on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the footpath and roads set out in this Notice until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent
as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs.

During the works there will be signed diversions in place.

from its junction with Swalwell Bank in a Westerly direction for a distance of

10 metres.

Bank Top Hamlet

from its junction with Swalwell Bank in a Westerly direction for a distance of

10 metres.
