THE A21 (VINEHALL ROAD) TRUNK ROAD

40 MILES PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT ORDER 2026

National Highways Limited(a) gives notice that they propose to make an Order under powers conferred by Sections 84(1)(a) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on the A21 Trunk Road in the District of Rother in the County of East Sussex.

The effect of the Regulation would be to impose a 40mph speed limit on both carriageways of the A21 between a point 289 metres south of the centre of Johns Cross Roundabout and a point 87 metres north of the centre of its junction with the B2089.

The Order would replace, by following on from, the existing Temporary Order: “The A21 Trunk Road (Vinehall) (Temporary Restriction of Traffic) Order 2024”(b).

A copy of the draft Order, a plan illustrating the proposal, and a statement explaining why National Highways Limited proposes to make the Order will be available for inspection from 16th January 2026 to 6th February 2026 to view at Whatlington Village Hall by appointment with the Parish Clerk, Mrs Tracy Dixon. Additionally the documents will be available to view on-line at: www.mountfield.org.uk  (contact clerk@mountfieldparishcouncil.gov.uk) The legal consultation period is 21 days commencing 16th January (the date of this notice) and ending 6th February 2026.

Any person desiring to object or make representations to National Highways’ proposal, should send, not later than 6th February 2026, a written statement of his or her representation or objection and of the grounds thereof to the address at the bottom of this notice, quoting the reference NH/SE/A21/VINEHALL ROAD SPEED. Information provided in response to this consultation, including personal information, may be subject to publication or disclosure in accordance with the access to information regimes (these are primarily the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004).
