What is happening?

THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

(GILMORE PLACE AREA) (TEMPORARY ROAD

RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026 - TEMP/26/22

The Council has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate carriageway resurfacing & footway works, no person shall: (a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on any part of: Phase 1 (i) Gilmore Pl, from 38m south-west of the extended west kerbline of Home St, south-westwards to the extended northeast kerbline of Leamington Ter; (ii) Hailes St, at Gilmore Pl; (iii) Gillespie St, at Gilmore Pl; (iv) Gilmore Pl La, at Gilmore Pl; (v) Lower Gilmore Pl, at Gilmore Pl; (vi) Upper Gilmore Pl, at Gilmore Pl; (vii) Leamington Rd, at Gilmore Pl: Phase 2 (viii) Gilmore Pl, from the extended south-west kerbline of Leamington Ter, south-westwards to the extended north-east kerbline of Viewforth; Phase 3 (ix) Gilmore Pl, from the extended south-west kerbline of Viewforth, south-westwards to the extended north-east kerbline of Merchiston Pk; & (x) Viewforth Ter, at Gilmore Pl. Provided that no part of Phase 1, Phase 2 or Phase 3 in this section be enacted at the same time; & (b) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle at any time on any part of: (i) Gilmore Pl, both sides, from 38m south-west of the extended west kerbline of Home St, south-westwards to the extended north-east kerbline of Merchiston Pk; & (ii) Leamington Ter, both sides, from the extended south-east kerbline of Gilmore Pl, southeastwards for 40m. The south to north one-way of Leamington Rd will be suspended for the duration of the works in Phase 1 to facilitate local access. Existing parking restrictions will be suspended on the affected section of road described in (b). The alternative routes for through vehicular traffic in relation to the road closures is: (a) Phase 1; (i) Gilmore Pl - Gilmore Pl, Leamington Ter, Bruntsfield Pl, Leven St & Home St; (ii) Gillespie St - Gilmore Pl, Leamington Ter, Upper Gilmore Pl & Gillespie St; & (iii) Upper Gilmore Pl - Gilmore Pl, Leamington Ter & Upper Gilmore Pl; (b) Phase 2, Gilmore Pl - Gilmore Pl, Viewforth, Bruntsfield Pl, Leven St & Home St; & (c) Phase 3; (i) Gilmore Pl - Gilmore Pl, Merchiston Ave, Colinton Rd, Bruntsfield Pl, Leven St & Home St; & (ii) Viewforth Ter - Viewforth & Viewforth Ter. The alternative route for heavy commercial vehicles & public service vehicles in Phase 1, Phase 2 & Phase 3 is Gilmore Pl, Polwarth Gdns, Polwarth Ter, Colinton Rd, Bruntsfield Pl, Leven St & Home St. There are no available diversions with respect to the road closures in Phase 1 of Hailes St, Gilmore Pl La, Lower Gilmore Pl & Leamington Rd where local access will be maintained where practical. The order shall have effect from 19/01/26 to 31/03/26.
