What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF FOOTPATH ADJACENT TO TUNSTALL VILLAGE GREEN, SILKSWORTH, SUNDERLAND) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit all pedestrians along the sections of footpath described in the Schedule. The Order is required to facilitate cabling works on or near the footpath. The Order will come into operation on 2nd March 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 6 months, however it is estimated that the closure will only be in operation for 2 months from commencement of the works. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the sections of footpath in the Schedule (except personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Pedestrian access to affected properties will be maintained throughout the closure. A diversion for pedestrians will be provided via the adjacent highway network. SCHEDULE Footpath adjacent to Tunstall Village Green (a) from its junction with Paddock Lane for a distance of 260 metres in a westerly direction. (b) from its junction with Tunstall Village Green for a distance of 25 metres in a northern-easterly direction. (c) from its junction with Tunstall Village Green for a distance of 25 metres in a northern-westerly direction.
