SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL (BOROUGH OF IPSWICH) (STOPPING, WAITING AND LOADING PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS AND ON–STREET PARKING PLACES) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2019 (BOROUGH OF IPSWICH) (BRIDGE STREET) (A137) (PROHIBITION OF WAITING AND RESTRICTION OF LOADING) (VARIATION NO.44) ORDER 2026
On 07/01/2026 Suffolk County Council made the above order under Sections 1(1) and (2), 2(1) to (3), 4(2) and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which substitutes revision 4 of Map Tiles GM122 and GM123 in place of revision 3 of the same Map Tiles, into the above-named 2019 order. The effect of this is to:
1. Introduce ‘No waiting at any time’ and ‘no loading 8am - 9.30am and 4.30pm - 6pm’ on Bridge Street (A137), Ipswich, for a distance of 13.5 metres to cover gap at the southern tip of the island from its junction with College Street and meeting the existing restrictions on Bridge Street.
For the avoidance of doubt, the existing 'No waiting at any time' and 'no loading or unloading, Monday – Saturday 8am – 9.30am and 4.30pm – 6pm' restriction, along the portion of the northern road between Bridge Street slip road and College Street will remain unaffected and continue to be in force. For clarity, these restrictions run 30 metres from the junction of College Street (A1022) to Bridge Street slip road.
2. Remove No waiting 8am – 6pm and no loading 8am – 9.30am and 4.30pm – 6pm' on:
• Bridge Street, slip road (A137), on its west side, for 46 metres in a southerly direction from its junction with College Street
• Bridge Street, slip road (A137), on its east side, for 56 metres in a southerly direction from its junction with College Street
Exemptions to the waiting restrictions allow a vehicle to wait for so long as is necessary to board or alight or to load and unload for building, industrial or demolition works; for emergency services; for the maintenance of the road or its services; and for fulfilling statutory duties. There are the usual exemptions for Blue Badge holders.
A copy of the order which comes into effect on 19/01/2026 and map showing the roads affected may be seen with advance notice at the address below, 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday; also at Ipswich County Library, Northgate Street, Ipswich IP1 3DE, 9am - 6pm on Monday; 9am - 7pm Tuesday; 9am - 6pm Wednesday - Thursday; 9am - 7pm Friday; 8.30am - 5pm Saturday and 10am - 4pm on Sunday (excluding public holidays and bank holidays).
If anyone wishes to question the validity of the order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, or on the grounds that any of the requirements of that Act or any instrument made under it have not been complied with in relation to the order, they may within six weeks of the date on which the order was made apply to the High Court for this purpose.
