Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

The A1 GLA Road (Northway Circus, London Borough of Barnet) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

1. Transport for London in consultation with the London Borough of Barnet hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable carriageway resurfacing works to take place on the A1 GLA Road - Northway Circus.

3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:

   (1) entering, exiting or proceeding on the eastbound carriageway of the A41 Edgware Way between its junctions with Spur Road Roundabout and Northway Circus;

   (2) entering, exiting or proceeding on Pike Road between its junctions with Ellesmere Avenue and Edgware Way;

   (3) entering, exiting or proceeding on Northway Circus between the eastbound carriageway of Edgware Way and the southbound carriageway of Barnet Way;

   (4) entering, exiting or proceeding on the westbound carriageway of the A41 Edgware Way between its junction with Northway Circus and the Unnamed Access Road Serving The Self Storage Company, Edgware Way;

   (5) entering, exiting or proceeding on the north-westbound carriageway of Watford Way between its junctions with Weymouth Avenue and Northway Circus;

   (6) entering, exiting or proceeding on the south-eastbound carriageway of Watford Way between its junctions with Northway Circus and Mill Hill Circus;

   (7) entering or exiting The Broadway at its junction with the northbound carriageway of Watford Way;

   (8) entering, exiting or proceeding on the southbound carriageway of Barnet Way between its junctions with Stirling Corner and Northway Circus, local access maintained;

   (9) entering or exiting or proceeding on the northbound carriageway of Barnet Way between its junctions with Northway Circus and Ellesmere Avenue;

   (10) entering, exiting or proceeding on the northbound carriageway of Selvage Lane between the extended common boundary of Nos. 4 and 5 Apex Parade and its Junction with Northway Circus;

   (11) entering, exiting or proceeding on the southbound carriageway of Selvage Lane between its Junction with Northway Circus and the extended common boundary of Nos. 663 and 665 Watford Way.

Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.

The Order will be effective between 26th January 2026 and 25th July 2027 every night from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

1. The prohibition will not apply in respect of:

   (1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;

   (2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

2. At such times as the prohibition is in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs:

   For Edgware Way eastbound closure via Edgware Way north-westbound, Elstree Hill South, High Street, Barnet Lane and Barnet Way back to normal route of travel.

   For Watford Way northbound closure via The Broadway, Hale Lane and Selvage Lane or reverse back to normal route of travel.

   For vehicles wishing to exit Marsh Lane unto Barnet By-Pass via Tottenbridge Common, High Road, Picklers Hill, Barnet Hill, Wood Street, Barnet Road to normal route of travel.

   For the northbound closure of Barnet By-Pass via Watford Way southbound, Great North Way, Charter Way, Regents Park Road, High Road, Picklers Hill, Barnet Hill, Wood Street and Barnet Road to normal route of traffic.

   For the northbound closure of Watford Way via Great North Road, North Circular Road, High Road, Picklers Hill, Barnet Hill, Wood Street, Barnet Road, Barnet Lane and Elstree Hill South to normal route of travel.
