Essex – Temporary Road and Bridleway Closures due to Public Safety and Mains Renewal Works

What is happening?

Essex County Council

(Bridleway 19, Saffron Walden) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).

Effect of the order: To temporarily close Bridleway 19, Saffron Walden in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with Upsheres northwest for approximately 300 meters.

Diversion will be via: Bridleway 19, Byway 18, Thaxted Road B184, Footpath 37 and vice versa.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 20 January 2026 to 30 April 2026 where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting. The closure is required for the safety of the public, while the widening of the existing Bridleway is undertaken.

The Order will come into effect on 20 January 2026 may continue in force for 6 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier

(Streetworks No.11) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close those lengths of road in the District of Uttlesford, as detailed in the Schedule.

The works are scheduled to commence after 15th January 2026, as stated on a valid permit. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on One.Network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.

The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while mains renewal works are undertaken by Affinity Water.

The Order will come into effect on 15th January 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

From the junction of Park Lane for a distance of approximately 575m in a south westerly then south easterly direction.

Langley Lower Green, Langley Road, Further Ford End Road, Road East from Langley Lane Past Meesden Bury, Langley Lane, Waterwick Hill and vice versa.

Park Lane, Langley

From its junction with Bull Lane for a distance of approximately 750m in a north westerly then north easterly direction.

Park Lane, Little Chishill Road, May Street, B1039, Lower Pond Street, Upper Pond Street, School Lane, Langley Road, Cogmore, Bull Lane and vice versa.

Park Lane / Langley Lower Green, Langley

From the junction of Bull Lane for a distance of approximately 810m in a south easterly direction.

Langley Lower Green, Langley Road, Valance Road, Upper Green Road, Bull Lane and vice versa.
