York, Multiple Traffic Resstrictions Due To Various Works
What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Wednesday, 31 December 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7) & (8).
(1) CLIFTON INGS NATIONAL CYCLE NETWORK ROUTE NO 65 (CONTINUATION), YORK
This Order, with authorisation from the Secretary of State for Transport, continues in force The York (Clifton Ings National Cycle Network Route No 65) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2022 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue in force the prohibition on vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of cycleway on Clifton Ings National Cycle Network Route No 65, York between its junction with Public Right Of Way 26/4/10 and the junction with Public Right Of Way 27/1/10 (closed cycleway) during the period commencing at 0100 hours on Thursday, 01 January 2026 and ending at 2359 hours on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 (works period) or on a date when flood defence works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians & cyclists will be signed during the works period.
(2) WETHERBY ROAD, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Wetherby Road, York between its junctions with Bland Lane and a point 200 metres east from the said junction (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Sunday, 18 January 2026 and ending at 0500hrs on Monday, 19 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(3) CHARLTON STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Charlton Street, York between its junctions with Bishopthorpe Road and Fenwick Street (closed road) during the period when water works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 19 January 2026 and ending at 2000hrs on Friday, 23 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(4) ALDBOROUGH WAY, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Aldborough Way, York between its junction with Kingsland Terrace and the projected southern property boundary line of No. 11 Aldborough Way (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 19 January 2026 and ending at 1500hrs on Tuesday, 20 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(5) YORK ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, STRENSALL
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on York Road Level Crossing, Strensall (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2200hrs on Monday, 19 January 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 20 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Princess Road, Moor Lane, Ox Carr Lane.
(6) SHIRBUTT LANE, HESSAY
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Shirbutt Lane, York between its junction with Low Moor Close for the remainder of its length (closed road) during the period when electrical works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 19 January 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 06 February 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(7) MANOR DRIVE SOUTH, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Manor Drive South, York between the projected southern property boundary lines of No. 5 and 21 Manor Drive South (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 21 January 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Wednesday, 21 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. No alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(8) MOOR LANE, SKELTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moor Lane, Skelton between the vehicle access road to Forest of Galtres Golf Club and vehicle access to St Catherines Cottages (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 21 January 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Thursday, 22 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. No alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
The above Temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
