Canterbury, Multiple Temporary Traffic Regulation Notices

What is happening?

Highways

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

CANTERBURY AREA

Bridge Road, Lower Hardres, CT4 7AG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Bridge Road, Lower Hardres from 26th January 2026, with estimated completion by 2nd February 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Greenways, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any westbound through traffic is via Station Road, Dover Road, A2050 Dover Road, Old Dover Road and B2068 Nackington Road.

The alternative route for any eastbound through traffic is via B2068 Nackington Road, Old Dover Road, A2050 Dover Road, A2 Dover Road Slip East Off, Bifrons Hill, Bekesbourne Road, Town Hill and Station Road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Church Lane, Waltham.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow pole and cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Church Lane, Waltham from 15th January 2026 with estimated completion by 16th January 2026, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from outside Dulwich Lodge travelling for approximately 100m in an easterly direction, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Church Lane, Richdore Road, Woods Hill, Whiteacre Lane, Church Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Dering Road, Bridge, CT4 5NB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow ducting works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Dering Road, Bridge from 29th January 2026, with estimated completion by 2nd February 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junction with High Street and number 2, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Dering Road, Union Road, Saxon Road, Western Avenue, High Street and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Grove Road, Wickhambreaux, CT3 4BN (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Grove Road, Wickhambreaux from 12th January 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed near Oaklees, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Grove Road, Wickham Road, Nargate Street, A257 High Street, Wingham Road, Canterbury Road, High Street, Preston Hill, Preston Road, Preston Lane, The Street, Grove Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



High Street & Guildhall Street, Canterbury.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & TEMPORARY ONE-WAY SUSPENSION) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow excavation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of High Street & Guildhall Street, Canterbury from 17th January 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

High Street will be closed outside number 32, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via High Street, Guildhall Street, Orange Street, The Friars, St Peters Street and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

The One-Way Order on Guildhall Street will be suspended to allow two-way access.



Hoath Road, Hoath.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Hoath Road, Hoath from 12th January 2025 for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with Hicks Forstal Road travelling southbound for approximately 2000m, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Babs Oak Hill, A28 Staines Hill, Island Road, The Glen, Nethergong Hill, Sandpit Hill, Church Lane, Boyden Gate Hill, Highstead, Ford Hill, Maypole Road, Hoath Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Marlowe Avenue & St Marys Street, Canterbury.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & TEMPORARY ONE-WAY SUSPENSION) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Marlowe Avenue, Canterbury from 26th January 2026, with estimated completion by 30th January 2026, or until the works have been completed.

Marlowe Avenue will be closed between Marlowe Court and Wayside, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route southwest bound is via St John’s Lane, Castle Street and St Marys Street.

The alternative route northeast bound is via St Marys Street, Castle Street, Rosemary Lane, Stour Street, Beer Cart Lane, Watling Street and Marlowe Avenue.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

The One-Way Order on St Marys Street will be suspended for the duration of the works to allow access.



Mercery Lane, Canterbury, CT1 2JS (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow for works requiring scaffolding to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Mercery Lane, Canterbury from 26th January 2026, with estimated completion by 16th February 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between numbers 10 and 16, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Sandown Drive, Herne Bay, CT6 8PS (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow pole and cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Sandown Drive, Herne Bay from 13th January 2026 with estimated completion by 14th January 2026, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junction with Fleetwood Avenue and number 1, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Sandown Drive, B2005 Sea Street, Bognor Drive, Fleetwood Avenue and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Seasalter Lane, Seasalter.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow new junction works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Seasalter Lane, Seasalter from 26th January 2026, with estimated completion by 27th February 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Applegarth Park Holiday Home access point, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Seasalter Lane, Dargate Road, Fox’s Cross Hill, Fox’s Cross Road, A290 Pean Hill, Clapham Hill, B2205 Borstal Hill, Joy Lane, Faversham Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Shalloak Road, Broad Oak, CT2 0PR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow ducting works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Shalloak Road, Broad Oak from 12th January 2026, with estimated completion by 14th January 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed at the junction with Broad Oak Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Vauxhall Road, A28 Sturry Road, A291 Sturry Hill, Sweechgate, Shalloak Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.



Westgate Court Avenue, Canterbury, CT2 7SZ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2026

To allow crossing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Westgate Court Avenue, Canterbury from 26th January 2026, with estimated completion by 28th January 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with A290 Whitstable Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Westgate Court Avenue, Davidson Road, Bishops Way, Temple Road, London Road, A290 Whitstable Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
