Suffolk - Multiple Temporary Road Closures due to Utility and Maintenance Works

What is happening?

SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984: SECTION 14

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PART OF THE U8507 SHELLEY ROAD, LAYHAM

Suffolk County Council intends to make an order closing the U8507 Shelley Road, Layham from Water House to the junction with Stoke Road to facilitate vegetation clearing. Other co-ordinated works may also take place during this period.

Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversion route will be Layham Road, the road from the C727 to the C473, Stoke Road and vice versa.

It is intended that the closure will operate from 14/01/2026 - 16/01/2026 from 8am - 5pm. If necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PART OF THE U8704 HARP CLOSE ROAD, SUDBURY

Suffolk County Council intends to make an order closing the U8704 Harp Close Road, Sudbury from 40 metres west of Waldingfield Road for 30 metres westbound to facilitate water remedial works. Other co-ordinated works may also take place during this period.

Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversion route will be Acton Lane, the B1115 and vice versa.

It is intended that the closure will operate on 14/01/2026 from 8am - 5pm but, if necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE C677 WHEPSTEAD ROAD, REDE

Suffolk County Council intends to make an order closing the C677 Whepstead Road, Rede to facilitate the installation of fibre network. Other co-ordinated works may also take place during this period.

Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversion route will be Old School Road, Chedburgh Road, the A143, Kiln Lane, Blacksmith Road and vice versa.

It is intended that the closure will operate from 14/01/2026 - 20/01/2026 but, if necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PART OF THE U5132 RADCLIFFE DRIVE, U5705 WILMSLOW DRIVE AND U5135 BELMONT ROAD, IPSWICH AND PINEWOOD

Suffolk County Council has made an order closing the following roads in the following phases:

    • U5132 Radcliffe Drive, Ipswich from The Chestnuts to Didsbury Close

    • U5132 Radcliffe Drive, Ipswich from Didsbury Close to no. 80 and the U5705 Wilmslow Drive from Radcliffe Drive to Ashton Close

    • U5135 Belmont Road, Pinewood from Acorn Close to Fir Tree Rise and U5705 Wilmslow Drive, Pinewood from Shotley Close to Belmont Road

This is to facilitate a gas replacement scheme. Other co-ordinated works may also take place during this period.

Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversion routes will be:

    1. Hawthorn Drive, Bridgewater Road and vice versa

    2. Belmont Road, Hawthorn Drive, Bridgewater Road and vice versa

    3. Sprites Lane, Hawthorn Drive, Bridgewater Road, Ellenbrook Road and vice versa, and Radcliffe Drive, Hawthorn Drive and vice versa

Closures will operate from:

    • 05/01/2026 – 19/01/2026

    • 19/01/2026 – 02/02/2026

    • 16/02/2026 – 02/03/2026

If necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PART OF THE U4923 MILL LANE, THURSTON

Suffolk County Council intends to make an order closing the U4923 Mill Lane, Thurston from the junction with Sheep Lane for 30 metres southbound to facilitate water meter maintenance works. Other co-ordinated works may also take place during this period.

Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversion route will be Pakenham Road, Barton Road and vice versa.

It is intended that the closure will operate on 14/01/2026 from 8am – 2pm but, if necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PART OF THE C561 CHURCH ROAD, TOSTOCK

Suffolk County Council intends to make an order closing the C561 Church Road, Tostock from the junction with the A1088 for 150 metres westbound to facilitate tree felling works. Other co-ordinated works may also take place during this period.

Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversion route will be the A1088, Norton Road, Bury Road, The Street, Drinkstone Road, 4937 from C435 to C432, Woolpit Road, Beyton Road, Road from C764 to C429, Road near Ticehurst Farm, Norton Road, The Green, Church Road and vice versa.

It is intended that the closure will operate from 14/01/2026 – 15/01/2026 but, if necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PART OF THE A1120 FROM CEDARS ROUNDABOUT TO CHURCH ROAD, STOWUPLAND

Suffolk County Council intends to make an order closing the A1120 from Cedars Roundabout to Church Road, Stowupland to northbound traffic from Cedars Roundabout for 40 metres northbound to facilitate street light repairs. Other co-ordinated works may also take place during this period.

Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversion routes will be:

    • • A1120 Diversion: the A1120, the A1308, Tot Hill and no vice versa

    • •  Mill Street Diversion: Kestrel Drive, Swift Drive, Creeting Road East and no vice versa

It is intended that the closure will operate from 9pm on 14/01/2026 – 3am on 15/01/2026 but, if necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).
