What is happening?

HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:

THE HERTFORDSHIRE (B197 GREAT NORTH ROAD, CHURCH STREET, A1000 WELWYN BYPASS, WELWYN AND A1000 HERTFORD ROAD, DIGSWELL) (40 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2025

NOTICE is given that the Hertfordshire County Council in order to improve road safety proposes under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to introduce new 40 mph speed limits on parts of Welwyn and Digswell as specified in the Schedule to this Notice.

Documents giving more detailed particulars of the proposals may be viewed from 24 December 2025 during office hours, at Main Reception, Farnham House, Stevenage, or on-line at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/trafficorders by selecting Welwyn Hatfield and looking at Ref: WH00725.

General enquiries relating to the proposals should be referred to the Highways Engineer concerned Andrew Helyer tel: 0300 123 4047 or andrew.helyer@hertfordshire.gov.uk

Objections or other representations to the proposals should be made in writing to: tro.team@hertfordshire.gov.uk or TRO Services Team, Postal Point (CH0242), Farnham House, Six Hills Way, Stevenage, SG1 2ST by 21 January 2026 stating the grounds on which they are made.

SCHEDULE: 40 mph speed limit – those sections of road listed below and as set out in the Order and scheme plan – Parts of B197 Great North Road, Church Street, A1000 Welwyn Bypass, Welwyn and A1000 Hertford Road, Digswell.

The making of Traffic Regulation Orders is a statutory function of the County Council. Any personal data you provide in responding to these Notices will be treated as confidential but will be shared with HCC Officers; County Councillors and contracted third parties who are involved in the statutory process. We will not share identifiable data with third parties outside of the statutory process.
