What is happening?

Portsmouth City Council (Bus Stop Improvement Programme) (Temporary Road Closure) (Temporary Prohibition of Loading and Waiting) (No.2) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that Portsmouth City Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
The Order comes into operation from 1st January 2026 and the effect will be as follows:
A) TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE, BUS LANE SUSPENSION AND PROHIBITION OF LOADING AND WAITING
Any road or length of road in the City of Portsmouth which is, at the time, closed or restricted to facilitate works for the 'Bus Stop Improvement Programme' of works in the City of Portsmouth.
B) REASON FOR THE ORDER
To facilitate the 'Bus Stop Improvement Programme' of works.
C) DURATION OF THE ORDER
From 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026 or completion of the works, whichever is sooner. Notwithstanding the above, works will take place in accordance with the dates and times and traffic restrictions required for each works, as stated in the permit for each works in the programme of works for the Bus Stop Improvement Programme. The works will be carried out in sections, the lengths and duration of which will be communicated by the placement of on-street signage, as required, and letters to residents prior to works taking place for each section of the road(s) to be restricted.
D) DIVERSION
Vehicles will be diverted as approved for the permit for each works.
Pedestrian access will be maintained around the works.
Cycles to follow vehicle diversion or dismount and follow pedestrian diversion around the works.
