THE BOROUGH OF LUTON
(VARIOUS ROADS)
(TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES) (No.1) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that Luton Borough Council, the Highway Authority for the said Borough, intends to make the above Order under the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).

The Order will come into operation on 6th January 2026 for a period of 18 months or when the proposed works have been completed, whichever is the earlier. Specific dates and times will be signed locally. The Order will therefore be in operation during such date and time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs, barriers or cones.

The effect of the Order will allow the Council to close to vehicular traffic the following roads and lengths of roads:
Stockingstone Road from its junction with Old Bedford Road to its junction with Hitchin Road. Diversion route via Stockingstone Road, New Bedford Road, Hucklesby Way, Hitchin Road. Alternatively, via Hitchin Road, Crescent Road, Crawley Green Road, Park Viaduct, Chapel Viaduct, Stuart Street, Dunstable Road, Telford Way, New Bedford Road (and reverse). Anticipated date and times of closure 6th January 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Crawley Green Road from its junction with Vauxhall Way to its junction with Wigmore Lane. Diversion route via Vauxhall Way, Eaton Green Road, Wigmore Lane. Alternatively, via Wigmore Lane. Anticipated date and times of closure 8th January 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Hitchin Road from its junction with Stockingstone Road to its junction with Vauxhall Way. Diversion route via Hitchin Road, Crescent Road, Crawley Green Road, Vauxhall Way (reverse). Alternatively, via Birchen Grove, St Martins Avenue, Felstead Way. Anticipated date and times of closure 12th January 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Toddington Road from its junction with Grange Avenue to its junction with Sundon Park Road. HGV Diversion via Oakley Road, Dunstable Road, Waller Avenue, Marsh Road, Sundon Park Road, Sundon Road (reverse). Non-HGV diversion via Grange Avenue, Sundon Park Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 13th January 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Sundon Park Road from its junction with Grampian Way to its junction with Hill Rise. Diversion route via Sundon Park Road, Bramingham Road, Icknield Way, Barton Road, Church Road, Sharpenhoe Road, Sundon Road, Streatley Road, Manor Road, Sundon Road, Sundon Park Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 15th January 2026, 8pm to 5am.
New Bedford Road from its junction with Stockingstone Road to its junction with Cromwell Road. Diversion route via Montrose Avenue, Woodland Avenue, Leagrave Road, Waller Avenue, Dunstable Road, Birch Link, Dunstable Road, Telford Way, Hucklesby Way Roundabout (reverse). Anticipated date and times of closure 19th January 2026, 8pm to 5am.

The Order is intended to create a window for the works to be done and it is anticipated that the works will be completed over a period as described above. The purpose of the Order is to enable Volker Highways to carry out Retexturing Carriageway works. For the period of the closure, the Order will also provide for “No Waiting and No Loading” restrictions to apply within the roads and lengths of roads closed for said works. Any vehicle deemed to be in contravention of the restrictions will be issued with a penalty charge notice and removed. This will be in force when traffic signs, barriers or cones are displayed. Access will be maintained as best as possible to properties where this may be done safely whilst such works are being carried out and diversions for traffic where available will be marked by signs.
