Essex - Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance, Utility Works, and Safety Requirements

What is happening?

(Essex Country Parks) (Off-Street Parking Places) Order 202*

Notice is Hereby Given that Essex County Council in exercise of its powers under Section 32, 35 and 38 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the 1984 Act”), and the Traffic Management Act 2004 (“the 2004 Act”) and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Parts I to III of Schedule 9 of the 1984 Act, has made the above Order.

The effect of the Order will introduce a new Essex Country Parks Off-Street Parking Places Order setting out the terms and conditions for the use of the Essex Country Park Car Parking areas as listed and shown in schedule 1 of the Order. These parking areas are located within Cudmore, Danbury, Great Notley, Hadleigh, Thorndon North, Thorndon South and Weald, Essex County Council Country Parks. The Order will also enable the Council to enforce non-compliant use of the car park using the legislation of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and includes the provision to accommodate and manage designated spaces for electric vehicle charging points for potential future use. The fees for parking will remain as currently set.

Application to the high court: Anyone who wishes to question the validity of the Order of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) or on the grounds that any requirement of the Act, or any instrument made under it, has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may within six weeks from the date of the making of the Order apply to the High Court for this purpose.

(Various paths, Wickford) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close various paths, Wickford in the Borough of Basildon as specified below. The closures will be phased, so only one path will be closed at a time.

(Footpath 9, Hullbridge) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2025

Further to notices: Under section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended), which commenced on 10 November 2025 and 1 December 2025.

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended)

Effect of the order: To temporarily close the following length of Footpath 9, Hullbridge in the District of Rochford, from the northwest corner of the recreation ground, west for approximately 32 metres.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 22 December 2025 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting. The closure is required for the safety of the public because part of the footpath has collapsed into the sea. Works will be carried out to make safe in due course.

Alternative route via: The recreation ground, Pooles Lane, Ferry Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 22 December 2025 and may continue in force for 6 months, or until the issue has been resolved.

(Ashingdon Road, Rochford) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

  1. To temporarily close that length of Ashingdon Road, Rochford in the District of Rochford, from a point approximately 25m north east of its junction with Oxford Road for a distance of approximately 65m in a north easterly direction.

  2. To temporarily introduce a ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ in the above length of road for the duration of the closure only.

“The Essex County Council (Rochford District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of roads only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The closure/restriction are scheduled to commence on 12th January 2026 for 20 nights (19:00–05:00), or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2395515 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure/restriction are required for the safety of the public and workforce while traffic signal renewal works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via Ashingdon Road, Lower Road, Hullbridge Road, Rawreth Lane, A1245, A127, Rochford Road, Southend Road, Bradley Way and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 11th December 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Badger Hall Avenue, Thundersley) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Badger Hall Avenue, Thundersley in the Borough of Castle Point, from its junction with Kiln Road for a distance of approximately 40m in a south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 13th January 2026 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30047794894 – UK Power Networks). The closure is scheduled to commence on 13th January 2026 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30047794894 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while service replacement works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

An alternative route is available via A13, Glenmere Park Avenue and vice versa (with access only into Badger Hall Avenue, Badgers Way).

The Order came into effect on 11th December 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Basildon Drive, Laindon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Basildon Drive, Laindon in the Borough of Basildon, from its junction with St Nicholas Drive for a distance of approximately 30m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 31st January 2026 for 2 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP40040460029 – Redbrooks Services Ltd). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while speed bump rebuilding works are undertaken by Redbrooks Services Ltd.

An alternative route is available via Basildon Drive, Holst Avenue, High Road, B148 and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 11th December 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Common Approach, Thundersley) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Common Approach, Thundersley in the Borough of Castle Point, from its junction with Hart Road to its junction with Great Burchess Road a distance of approximately 245m. The closure is scheduled to commence on 26th January 2026 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2396677 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while drainage investigation works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via Hart Road, Raymonds Drive, Grandview Road, Burchess Road, Great Burchess Road and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 11th December 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Cumberland Avenue, South Benfleet) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Cumberland Avenue, South Benfleet in the Borough of Castle Point, from its junction with South View Road for a distance of approximately 25m in a westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 12th January 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC311001WGJTWHD2 – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while spine cabling works are undertaken by Openreach.

(Curling Tye, Fryerns) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Curling Tye, Fryerns in the Borough of Basildon, from a point approximately 10m north east of its junction with Curling Walk for a distance of approximately 40m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 12th January 2026 for 12 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411001WGKKRH4G – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while duct laying works are undertaken by Openreach.

(Friern Gardens, Wickford) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Friern Gardens, Wickford in the Borough of Basildon, from its junction with Friern Walk for a distance of approximately 70m in a northerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 12th January 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EN014M153175 – Essex And Suffolk Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while remedial works are undertaken by Essex And Suffolk Water.

(Grange Road, Great Burstead and South Green) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Grange Road, Great Burstead and South Green in the Borough of Basildon, from its junction with The Willows for a distance of approximately 35m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 19th January 2026 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EN014M159056 – Essex And Suffolk Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway remedial works are undertaken by Essex And Suffolk Water.

(Long Lynderswood & ECN10047 (Hempstalls), Laindon) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

  1. To temporarily close that length of Long Lynderswood, Laindon in the Borough of Basildon, from its junction with ECN10047 for a distance of approximately 65m in a north westerly direction.

  2. To temporarily close that length of ECN10047 (Hempstalls), Laindon in the Borough of Basildon, from its junction with ECN10005 for a distance of approximately 65m in a south westerly direction.

The footway/cycle lane closures are scheduled to commence on 12th January 2026 for 12 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30079568090 & EC30047099136 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The footway/cycle lane closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while new electricity supply works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

(Oak Road, Billericay) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Oak Road, Billericay in the Borough of Basildon, from a point approximately 310m north east of its junction with Harding Elms Road for a distance of approximately 120m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 5th January 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EN013336693 – Essex And Suffolk Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by Essex And Suffolk Water.

(Various Roads, District of Rochford & Borough of Castle Point) (Temporary Introduction of a 40 MPH Speed Restriction) (Streetworks No.1) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily introduce a 40mph speed restriction on those lengths of road in the District of Rochford & Borough of Castle Point, as detailed in the Schedule.

The works are scheduled to commence after 11th December 2025, as stated on a valid permit. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on One.Network. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.

The restrictions are required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway excavation works are undertaken by Baham Solar Ltd.

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Woolards Way, South Woodham Ferrers in the City of Chelmsford, from a point approximately 10m north west of its junction with Pertwee Drive for a distance of approximately 45m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 26th January 2026 for 29 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411001WG0V718L – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while spine cabling works are undertaken by Openreach.
