Eastern Road - Temporary Road Closure
What is happening?

Portsmouth City Council (Eastern Road) (Temporary Road Closure) (Temporary Prohibition of Loading and Waiting) (No.4) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that Portsmouth City Council intends to make the above Order under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
The Order comes into operation from 4th January 2026 and the effect will be as follows:
A) TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE AND PROHIBITION OF LOADING AND WAITING
EASTERN ROAD (SOUTHBOUND)
From its junction with Burrfields Road to Hayling Avenue.
B) TEMPORARY BANNED RIGHT TURN
BURRFIELDS ROAD
Into Eastern Road (southbound).
TANGIER ROAD
Into Eastern Road (southbound).
SWORD SANDS ROAD
Into Eastern Road (southbound).
C) TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF 7.5 TONNE WEIGHT RESTRICTION
ANCHORAGE ROAD
From its junction with Sywell Crescent to Norway Road.
D) REASON FOR THE ORDER
To facilitate Southern Water works.
E) DURATION OF THE ORDER
From 4th January 2026 to 31st March 2026 or completion of the works, whichever is sooner.
F) DIVERSION
Vehicles will be diverted from Eastern Road (northbound), Burrfields Road, Copnor Road, Milton Road, Baffins Road, Milton Road, Velder Avenue, Eastern Road and Eastern Road (northbound), Farlington Roundabout, Eastern Road (southbound), Burrfields Road, Copnor Road, Milton Road, Baffins Road, Milton Road, Velder Avenue, Eastern Road.
Pedestrian access will be maintained around the works.
Cycles to follow vehicle diversion or dismount and follow pedestrian diversion around the works.
