Cumberland, Temporary Road Closures Due To Utility Works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (C4028 CORNEY FELL, DUDDON BRIDGE AND U4173 NEWTON STREET (BACK LANE) MILLOM) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:

  1. C4028 Corney Fell, Duddon Bridge, from its junction with the A595, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 2.2km.

    Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the C4028, Bobbin Mill Hill, Ulpha, Sella Brow, Smithy Lane and A595.

    Duration: From 6 January 2026 for approx. 4 days

  2. U4173 Newton Street, Millom (back lane) from its junction with the U4172, Lapstone Road, extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 60m.

    Alternative Route: via the U4172 Lapstone Road, U4168 Wellington Street and the back land of Lapstone Road.

    Duration: From 8 January 2026 for approx. 6 days

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 6 January 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
