York - Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures due to Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 11 December 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4) & (5). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (6), (7), (8), (9), (10), (11) & (12).

(1) BLAKE STREET, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Blake Street, York between its junctions with Duncombe Place and Stonegate (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 05 January 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 06 March 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.
It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0730hrs and 1700hrs for the works period except for a two-week period when the road will be closed 24hrs a day for highway resurfacing purposes. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Museum Street, Lendal Bridge, Rougier Street, Low Ousegate, Spurriergate, Coney Street, St Helens Square. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(2) NORTH LANE, HUNTINGTON, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on North Lane, Huntington, York between its junctions with Strensall Road and Costwold Way (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 05 January 2026 and ending at 1430hrs on Tuesday, 06 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0930hrs and 1400hrs for each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A1237, Strensall Road. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(3) BACK LANE SOUTH, WHELDRAKE
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane South, Wheldrake between its junction with Main Street and a location 70 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 05 January 2026 and ending at 1630hrs on Saturday, 14 February 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed via Vicarage Lane throughout the works period. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(4) POTTERY LANE, STRENSALL
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Pottery Lane, Strensall between a location 245 metres west of its junction with Sheriff Hutton Road and a location 170 metres north-west of its junction with Forest Lane (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 05 January 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Friday, 09 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Sheriff Hutton Road, Well Lane, Carr Lane. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(5) AMY JOHNSON WAY, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Amy Johnson Way, York between its junction with Kettlestring Lane and a location 38 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Tuesday, 06 January 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Wednesday, 07 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Kettlestring Lane. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(6) HULL ROAD, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of central reservation traffic lane on Hull Road, York between a point 125 metres northeast of the projected centreline of Osbaldwick Link Road and a point 11 metres southwest of the said centreline (closed traffic lane) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Thursday, 08 January 2026 and ending at 0500hrs on Friday, 09 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Hull Road.

(7) LEEMAN ROAD & CINDER STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Leeman Road & Cinder Street, York (i) on Leeman Road between its junction with Cinder Street and a location 187 metres east of said junction and (ii) on Cinder Street between its junction with Leeman Road and a location 274 metres south-west of said junction (closed roads) during the period when York Central works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1930hrs on Friday, 09 January 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Monday, 19 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the works will only take place from Friday evening until Monday morning each week of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Livingstone Street, Salisbury Road, Water End, Clifton, Bootham, Museum Street.

(8) LOW PETERGATE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Low Petergate, York between the projected northern boundary of property no’s 65 & 73 (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 January 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 23 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Low Petergate between its junctions with Grape Lane and Church Street is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Grape Lane, Swinegate, Church Street.

(9) CASTLEGATE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Castlegate, York between the projected south-eastern boundary of property no. 18 and a location 25 metres south-east of said projected boundary (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1030hrs on Monday, 12 January 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Wednesday, 14 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1030hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(10) ALBANY STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Albany Street, York between its junction with Bromley Street and the projected southern boundary of property no. 13 (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 January 2026 and ending at 2000hrs on Monday, 12 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Hanover Street East, Bright Street, Bromley Street.

(11) FOOTPATH BETWEEN NELSON STREET AND ELDON TERRACE, YORK
This Order will prohibit pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footpath on Footpath Between Nelson Street And Eldon Terrace, York between its junction with Eldon Street and a location 13 metres north-east of said junction (closed footway) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 January 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Saturday, 17 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(12) BACK LANE BETWEEN NUMBER 22 TO 50 KYME STREET AND NUMBER 9 TO 25 NEWTON TERRACE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane Between Number 22 To 50 Kyme Street And Number 9 To 25 Newton Terrace, York between its junction with Kyme Street and a location 25 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 January 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Saturday, 17 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Kyme Street, Baile Hill Terrace.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will identify the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
