Footpath 3, Stourton With Gasper - The Construction Works
What is happening?
SECTION 14(1) OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
Notice is hereby given that the Wiltshire Council intends to make an Order to close temporarily to all users: A) Footpath 3, Stourton with Gasper; from its junction with Footpath 2, Stourton with Gasper to its junction with High Street. B) Footpath 31, Stourton with Gasper; from its junction with Footpath 4, Stourton with Gasper to its junction with Footpath 3, Stourton with Gasper to enable Garden Lake is a high risk large-raised reservoir under the Reservoirs Act 1975. It is currently experiencing significant seepage issues through the embankment dam. The construction works are to rectify this by sheet piling through the section of the embankment dam and to remediate any sinkholes. To be able to undertake this work safely there is a requirement to close China Road as seen on the accompanying map so that the hazard of people-plant interface is eliminated. The road will have to remain accessible for Beech Cottage residents and the contractor is to liase with the National Trust on the procedure for this. Alternative route Footpath 4, Stourton with Gasper – Footpath 2, Stourton with Gasper – High Street and vice versa.
The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs. This Order will come into operation on 05 January 2026, and it is anticipated that the closure will be required until 13 March 2026. Access will be maintained where possible although delays are likely due to the nature of the works. The Order will have a maximum duration of 6 months.
